Exclamation JL amp set question/help???

Ok so i have a 450/4 powering 2 Polk components (front) and 2 coax (rear) and 1 500/1 to JL10W6 connected via the 450/4 pre-amp output. What I have found is that the base response is louder if I only use either left or right pre-output signal from the 450/4. If i use both then the sub sounds lower and i have to turn up the volume. I sounds as if certain frequencies are being cut off when i use both compared to either one. Any idea why?

I would say just run another line from the sub preout on the deck to the 500/1

Oh i forgot to mention its the stock HU (non-Bose) so i know if there is a sub pre-out from the HU. Is there?

Thanks for the quick response.

Your problem sounds like the polarity of the sub and the rear speakers is reversed.

Thanks Gilley I think I found the problem. Looks like my front & rear left and right were crossed. I'll play around some more this evening to make sure everything is good.

sounds to me like you are trying to run your sub in stereo instead of in mono. what you describe is exactly what would happen. The 450/4 preamp output is passthrough, i.e. full-range stereo. It would be OK to run it with just one input to the 500/1 but of course it would sound funny since you'd only be hearing "left side bass" or "right side bass" instead of summing the bass and feeding it to the amp.

What you should really be using is something like my Audiocontrol LC6i.
If I had it out of my car I'd sell it to you!

and no, there is not a dedicated sub out on the factory amp, you just have to lowpass one of the signals.

lancer - I'm using the Scosche SLC4 to interface between the HU and the 450/4 wouldn't that work the same as the Audiocontrol LC6i?

Yes, but the LC6i is 6-channel whereas the Scosche is 4-channel. With the AC unit you could use 4 channels for speaker outputs and flip it to use the last 2 channels as a sub out.

I'm not sure I follow. How would I use 3/4 on the LC6i to feed the sub? Do i bridge 3/4 inputs on the AC to 5/6 inputs?

That functionality is built into the unit, I believe there is a switch to use channels 5/6 as a sub out.
I am assuming you need 1/2 and 3/4 for fronts/rears.

so does the stock non-bose HU have 6 o/p channels? I believe the bose model coupe has 6 speakers (2 in rear deck) unlike the base, so is the HU the same for both models? If so do, you know which wires are for the add two o/p?

Just saw this in the AC manual - "Sometimes in life (and car audio) we need more outputs than inputs. Therefore we have equipped your LC6i with AutoMode inputs that take the Channel 2 signal and automatically feeds it to the Channel 3 outputs, provided there is no signal present on the Channel 3 inputs. This means your LC6i will accept two input channels and give you four output channels. Or it can accept four input channels and give you six output channels." I get it now.

Thanks!

Right. I was pretty sure that's how I had mine set up.

The Bose HU only has 4 channels coming out of it. The Bose amp takes those 4 channels and turns it into 6 channels. The extra two are low frequency bass sent to the 6x9s.
