Fitting Deep Rear-side Speakers in Coupe

There has been some questions about what kind of speakers will fit in the rear side panels of the coupe.

Alot of people seemed to be interested in using Infinity 62.5i 6-1/2" coaxial speakers. Someone had posed earlier that their installer told them that they would not fit.

So here is a mini guide on how to fit these (or any speaker 2-3/16" deep) in the stock side locations.

Re: Fitting Deep Rear-side Speakers in Coupe

The first thing I did was follow nycg35's "how-to" on how to remove the rear and side panels.

Next, I removed the stock speakers. I took the metal bracket that the stock speakers mount to and trace the pattern on 3/4" MDF.

I cut the spacer out and recessed holes for the stock speaker mounting bolts. It is better to use them than to loose them.

Mount the MDF to the metal bracket and reinstall the metal bracket in the car.

Ok, this step might make everyone a bit nervous. Not be worried, it is completely ok and won't affect anything ever.

The next thing you have to do is to flatten down the pice of angled metal shown in the picture, marked with the red arrow.

Use a piece of wood (I recommend a 1"X2" board about 8" long) and a hammer to flatten out the arched metal. Hit the wood hard enough to flatten the metal but do damage anything.

If it is unclear of exactly where I am talking about, put the bracket and spacer in place, then try to mount the speaker... the magnet will hit the raise piece of metal that need flattening.

Mount your speakers, run the wire and your done.

Thats pretty cool.

I guess I was a bit behind the times on my Crack Stuffing knowledge.

I will definately have to learn more about Stuffing Cracks. Speaking of funny names... I seen a foot cream the other day called Zim's Crack Cream, thats pretty damn funny too.

INFINITI G35 Coupe
Bringing up a dead thread to tag for further use later. Has anyone else done something like this since then? Maybe installed 8" subwoofers and sealed that compartment?

If I recall correctly from the stickied thread you commented in, the cutout diameter is 6-3/8" correct?
