Vehicle Info/Status Protocols?

Hi, I bought a G35x a few weeks ago and wasn't able to get a navi.
Since I'm planning on making my own carputer/navi system, I want to include the fuel economy info, fluid info, and all that other stuff that was on the Navi.

The problem is, all I've found is that there is a CAN bus (from the pics in the FYI section of this page), but I don't know how to ask it for the data. Also, how different is this from the ODB-II bus? It seems every page I look up says that ODB scans only seems to include what parts are giving errors.

So yeah, maybe I've been searching google the wrong way, but I'd appreciate if anybody has any info. (schematics, example source code, heck, I'd even take waveforms)

you should get the electronic service manual, EVERYTHING is in there....literally...from every bolt to every electrical function in the G.
I believe that you can register on nissan's site for a day ($20) fee and you will have unlimited access to their ESM database, i.e. download the entire sedan ESM.
Its in Adobe PDF format and around 80MB total size.
