need a ipod add-on that charges a iphone
i have a 05x with navi, i'm not sure if its SAT, i dont know how to check this, but i assume i don't.
I have the 1st gen iphone which is the non 3g version. I would like to get a ipod integration unit so that it can play and CHARGE either my 16gb iphone or my 60gb video ipod.
I know there are like 3 system out there or maybe more as i've read a couple of threads on it.
first question is reguardless of what kit i get, they are all plug n play type of kits right? the OEM unit installs in the trunk, while the other 2 kits install at the radio harness. the 2 that go into the back of the radio, there are male and female connections there correct? meaning i pull the OE harness and plug it into my ipod harness and then use the other end to go into radio. these are the same on both harnesses that go in the back of the radio?
the work doesn't bother me much at all. next up would be what diffrence between all.
OEM harness= steering wheel control, ipod read out on the radio screen, not taking apart the dash. but its at 190$ ....... i dont think i've read that it charges ipods or iphones.
USA SPEC PA11-NIS = $120 give or take. can use something other then ipod
PAC AAI-NIS2 = $80... really cheap but i dont know much about it
overall just reading a couple of threads it seems as if the OEM one is the way to go, other then the price it cant be beat. i just need to find out if i have SAT or not. Once i find out if ANY of these can charge my iphone then it will help a lot.

i have the PAC AAI-NIS2, and I also have the first gen 16gb iphone. I usually drive around with my ipod hooked up to it. but Now I plug in my iphone and use the music on it as well...(and yes it charges it) Pretty much anything that hooks up to an ipod will charge an iphone.
OEM kit
I have the OEM kit and it charges my 1st gen iPhone just fine. I have the 3G now so I just installed the kit in the trunk and leave my old iPhone back there. It was much easier to do this way since there is really no reason to have my old iPhone inside the car.

so the OEM and the PAC AAI-NIS2 both charges, I've been trying to read more about the PAC AAI-NIS2 unit about the artist/title read out and the steering wheel controls or least a head unit control.
i'm leaning towards the OEM, and just leaving my 60gb in there and forgetting about it. but is there a way to extend the OEM kit's harness so it can make it to my armrest or something... i rather not go into my trunk all the time for the iphone.

sounds good.. well to continue on with my questions and research, where is the module suppose to go in the SEDANS.
I've look at the DIY and they are for the coupes and they are on the driver's trunk area. I removed all foam under my sedan trunk to find nothing...
so where would the OEM plug into in a sedan?

Following is the link to the install instructions from everythingg35.com where I bought my kit:
http://www.g35parts.com/download/ipodinstall.pdf
These are instructions for the sedan so hopefully that will help you.
