Build My Sound System!

Re: Build My Sound System!
djrobx, need your advice, i currently have the exact set you're referring to.....i tapped the sub wires into a line converter, then rca out to a x-over then to an, old school, jensen amp rated at 300p, about 210rms....to two polk audio 12" subs in a ported box...after playing with the gains on the line converter, x-over and the cut-off frequency ranges on the x-over, the subs fluttered quite easily when the volume when up, even with bass at 0 from the head unit....it's hard to explain, but i hope you got the idea.....this setup was thumping when it was in my 00 maxima....any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks.

Re: Build My Sound System!
Ya know - everyone's so GA-GA over these JL's. I have news for ya, people - if you want the max sound for the smallest space taken up in yer little G35 Coupe trunk ------- get a Boston Acoustic Sub. Sounds better, and it takes up MUCH less space (.5 ft/3) is all. I'll have some pics of my install I finished up last night on here soon... but dang. You can get subs and components for a lot cheaper than what these guys are quoting you... but then again, maybe they're buying retail and getting people to do the work for them. I'm at $2600 and I replaced everything myself and had a shot actually build the box for the sub. Looks/sounds GREAT. I'll make the "MEGA" post later with pics... I also put in a Viper 791XV Alarm system and the SWI-X device (steering wheel interface). Everything is awesome. Last, I put some rear speakers in there, but built some baffles to make them fit. I'll have a template for sale if anyone wants me to send them a copy. Trace the template out on a piece of wood and vioa-la!

Re: Build My Sound System!
ah.... jensen...brings back memories from high school....do they still make stereo stuff????? lol
JL.....I too don't see the major bruhaha about them. Yes, they sound good/amp great sound but is it truly worth the $$? I'm sure you could find equally comparable components for a fraction of the cost.
MB Quarts......they are too "bright" for me. I had them in my car a few years back at the recommendation of the audio shop at the time. They were good but the treble often gave me headaches.
BAMA, I wanna see some pictures man!

Re: Build My Sound System!
I'm not sure why you guys are all suggesting JL amps for powering just a 10" JL sub. I had a great system in my last BMW which had a 10" being powered by a Profile mono amp. The amp cost be $70 and had a high RMS and was more than enough to power just the sub. Save your money on the amp seriously. After all, it is just the power and you can't hear anything from it. IMO, Profile does make some great amps for people on a budget. It will get the job done and is a real sleeper.
