would two 8" subs hit hard??
im sure i can fit 2-8" subs pretty clean in the trunk of the coupe, making it fully removable for additional space, when needed (not that i ever will remove it!)...
but will 2-8" subs, like Kicker S8L7 (Solo-Baric S7, the square kinds) or JLAudio 8W7, hit hard enough? i plan on giving it lots of power, like 500 watts x 2...
although 8" subs won't push alot of air, they are very high-end subs and will get alot of power.
worth it, or not?? (i'm gonna build a custom box, 1" MDF, sealed)

I've heard a G35 with 2 8w7s, and it hits HARD. I think he has 250 watts going to each so with 500x2, it'd be pretty loud. Those W7s are awesome

Re: would two 8" subs hit hard??
no thanks, i have 2 10" kicker competition's (remember, from 8 years ago) in my accord that hits HARD. with a 25 watt Phoenix Gold amp, yes 25 watt! but the amp is bridged and the speakers are run in parallel. so i guess each speaker is seeing around 100watts...
good luck selling it though

Re: would two 8" subs hit hard??
I have heard two L5s in a vented enclosure. It was in Kickers demo Mercury Cougar. It was quite loud. You must take into consideration that it was a hatch though. If you dont care that it takes up room in the middle of the trunk then go for it. I personally do not like the look of a square box just in the trunk. I can build you one in the corner for one 8" vented that would be just as loud as two sealed. Look at my thread titled "pics of coupe box."

Re: would two 8" subs hit hard??
i will either go with 2 8W7's, 2 8L8 or L5's or your 10" side box... havent really decided yet... i like making my own boxes so most likely i'll make a sealed box for 2 8's, either JL or Kicker... 2x8's push 28% more air than 1x10, so i like the 2x8's setup a little better... although your side box takes up almost no trunk space!

Re: would two 8" subs hit hard??
I believe it was a sealed box. If I were you, I would go with the 8w7, but I'm a bit biased towards JL Audio. The sound was clean, and surprisingly deep...he had only (1) 8w7 on and when I first sat in the car, I thought it was 2 running, but the one sounded just as good as any 10" out there...I was surprised to see that it could go as low as a 10" I myself have (2) 10w3v2s because I got them for cheap...if I had money, I would have went for a w7.

I do buy into the benifits of what you are saying, 28%. But remember about power requirements. You are going to need more power. Also I bet I can make one 8" louder and sound more musical than two 8s, but that is just my ego talking. I have done this bet with many customers. My bet was if it is not louder then they got it for free, made money every time. Remember its much better if you can make it louder acousticaly instead of electronicaly, cheaper to.

Hmm, if making it louder acoustically is much better than electronicaly, why aren't more people using band-pass enclosures?
That's an interesting idea, taking a smaller sub and then porting the enclosure. Would be very interesting to compare the sound of a sealed 10" vs. a ported 8" in your boxes, all else being equal.

Re: would two 8" subs hit hard??
People use different box types to achieve a different sound...sealed produces tighter bass and a flatter response, while ported/bandpass plays louder. Right?
I'm currently running 1 12" in a low q sealed box at 500 watts... yes it could play louder but that's not really what I'm going for.

Re: would two 8" subs hit hard??
HERE ARE NUMEROUS WAYS TO MAKE AN ENCLOSURE LOUDER. BANDPASS IS VERY EFFICIENT AT ONLY CERTAIN FREQUENCIES. I PERSONALLY THINK THEY SOUND LIKE SHOES IN A DRYER. IF YOU BUILD ONE PERFECT FOR THE WOOFER AND THE ENVIRONMENT, THEN YES THEY WORK. DOWN FALL IS THAT THEY ARE LARGE AND VERY DIFFICULT TO BUILD PERFECT. WHEN I BUILD VENTED ENCLOSURES I ALWAYS MEMIC WHAT A SEALED ENCLOSURE DOES. FOR EXAMPLE IF A SEALED ENCLOSURE ON MY PROGRAM ROLLS SMOOTHLY OFF AT 28HZ I WILL DESIGN THE VENTED ENCLOSURE TO MIRROR THE SEALED BUT 3-6DB LOUDER. THIS GIVES YOU THE SOUND OF A SEALED ENCLOSURE WITH THE BENEFITS OF A VENTED. IF ITS POSSIBLE I ALLWAYS TRY TO VENT THE ENCLOSURE. WITH THE ENCLOSURE WE ARE BUILD THE SPACE IS TOO TIGHT FOR ONE 10" VENTED. IT WILL WORK FOR ONE 8" VENTED BUT MOST PEOPLE WANT A LARGER WOOFER.
