Stock Audio Questions

How do most of you have the Bass, Treble, Fade and SCV settings for the stock Bose system? No matter what I do it either sounds really "trebley" or washed out treble.

Is there a way to remove the AM band from the looped list of modes for the steering wheel mounted "Mode" button?

Re: Stock Audio Questions

I don't think you're going to find a good setting for the stock system.
The speakers suk. Save up your $$ and replace 'em.

Come on, they aren't that bad for an old guy. :-)

Any other opinions on getting the most out of these "suk" speakers?

Re: Stock Audio Questions

They're bad. Period.
I think, for $69.99, you'd be happier with aftermarket speakers.

Other than that, mess w/treble & bass and see if you can get a sound you can live with.

Also, are you fiddling with the premium or non-premium stereo? If you have 6x9s in the back (i.e. the premium stereo) I can see you ending-up with something you can listen to. If you have the non-premium "system", good luck!

No, it's the premium system. It sounds nice, just a little off. I almost wish there was .5 half increments in the Bass and Treble. Also, switching to a real CD (not a burned one) and turning off SCV seemed to make it sound much better.

Re: Stock Audio Questions

I thought the SVC was what determined the volume increase relative to vehicle speed. It should just be another volume control. (You go faster, the volume auto-increases.)

Re: Stock Audio Questions

That trebly? sound you are referring to could be the fact that the 6.5" door speaker is not regulated. It does not have a crossover that would filter out the tweeter frequencies. You can imagine what happens when it's trying to produce a 30 hz tone at the same time as a 30,000 hz tone.

An inexpensive way to remedy this is to get a passive crossover at Radio Shack for a buck. The passive x-over on the tweeter is 10uh? and above. They should have a 10uh? and below that you can put in line with the 6.5" speaker.

Why they didn't include this .25 cent piece at the factory for the $900 premium is beyond me.

Re: Stock Audio Questions

How are the results of this? Has anyone else on the forum tried this?

I searched but didn't seem to find any more details on this. Do you have a part number or better description of the part? Is there a DIY guide floating around?

Re: Stock Audio Questions

Just have a quick look into replacing the front tweeters. You can do it yourself... it really isnt too much trouble at all. You can find something reasonably priced and once installed you will notice a better difference. I think this would help clean up the issue you are hearing.

Good luck and let us know what you settle on.

Re: Stock Audio Questions

I also have the stock audio system, not the premium version and would like to spend maybe $300-400 to upgrade the speakers and the amp. Is this possible on this budget and if so what stuff should I be looking at?

Thanks alot.

Jason

Re: Stock Audio Questions

Depends on the amp. Some amps will take speaker-level signals. It's not a bad idea to use LOCs, they're just not always needed.
