PhatBox Installed!

I recieved my PhatBox a couple of days ago, and its the best thing since sliced bread. For those who aren't familiar with what a PhatBox is - its basically an MP3 player for your car. It interfaces with the existing head unit and acts as a CD Changer. Works flawlessly for the G35. I had to get a special cable from PhatNoise (the company who makes this - www.phatnoise.com) so that I could connect the unit directly to my SAT pre-wire. It took them a long time to do it (about 3-4 weeks) but it works without a hitch.

Now the only reason for me to have a CD in the car is if I just bought it and haven't ripped it yet!

Here are a couple pictures after installation:

Re: PhatBox Installed!

So does this work through the satellite interface or does it show up as a CD changer? I vaguely remember reading something about going into a service menu and enabling a CD changer. If it is a CD changer, how do you select it? Press CD again or something?

I'm curious if it could be made to work with an existing satellite tuner. The sat tuner has a pass through connector on it.

Re: PhatBox Installed!

Man, I have wanted to have a PhatBox since I had my VW Jetta 2000 with a Monsoon stereo but the price has always been through the roof. Somebody pointed me to a PhatBox copy cat (Omnifi) in this forum that costs about $450 for 20 gigs. This copycat also has the ability to communicate via wireless 802.11b protocol with a home lan to download the mp3 songs directly into the car. I am seriously thinking about this thing once the PAC interface comes out.

Re: PhatBox Installed!

Everyone interested in a MP3-type jukebox device for their car should go to PhatNoise for Infiniti and check out the flash demo of how this thing works. It uses a voice interface for navigation of the Artists, Genres, Playlists, etc.

Not the cheapest solution, but very nice nevertheless.

Re: PhatBox Installed!

I just got mine on Monday also. I thought I was the only one waiting over a month for that damn cable to be made! Thanks to CIint (THX723) for all his help. I still have a lot of id tags to edit so that the voice says the right thing instead of "unknown artist" hehe.
I used to own an Empeg, but the fact that the Phatbox can be interfaced with the stock head unit, I couldn't pass it up! Plus it has voice recognition, so you can keep your eyes on the road while searching for songs.
