Post 2005 g35 sedan - What are my MP3 player options?

Hello!

I just bought a 2005 g35x sedan! I absolutely love it!

It currently has a stock 6 disc mp3 player. That's just not going to get the job done. I've searched all around for options and found a lot of scattered information. I didn't really find a solution.

A couple things I don't really want to do...

I don't want to replace the factory HU.
I don't want to wire anything up to use an iPod or anything.

I found people mentioning hooking up a phatbox in the trunk to a prewired satellite connection and the factory HU is suppose to work with it. I'm not sure if that's true, but they aren't selling them anymore. Same thing with the Kenwood Keg. Discontinued. Aside from it being discontinued, i read the phatbox announces songs before it plays em making me not want to seek out a used one someone might be selling.

Are there any other trunk hard disc options? I've googled around and searched these forums. I'm having a difficult time finding an option.

I'd just like a hard disc based music collection in my trunk and control it with the factory HU. Any ideas?

Thanks a ton!

I had an Omnifi hard drive based MP3 player in my car until I changed my HU recently. It worked well and did exactly what you are looking for. However, it does have its own control unit for which I made a custom mount in the pocket above the car's HU.

Did the controller need to be hard wired through the car back to the hard drive? Ideally I don't want to have to wire anything up like that =) ... Some of the reason why i'd love to find something that the factory HU can be used. Have any pics of how you mounted the control?

you can use a USA-Spec iPod adapter which will let you use factory HU controls to control the iPod. You won't be able to select individual songs but you can select playlists on the iPod

Hey. You sure the USA-SPEC PA11-NIS doesn't allow track up and down? The descriptions I'm reading on it looks like it does:

» Direct access and control of up to 5 different Playlist (in Playlist mode)
» Playback functions include: Track up/down, Fast Track (increments of 10), Fast Forward/Rewind etc.
» Access unlimited song per each Playlist
» Auto skip 10+ songs in each play list with FF button
