how long does the stock battery last?
One bad battery and you are off something forever? Wow.....
Did you ask why?
Did you return it?
Did the shop that sold it to you make good on it?

my car came with a red top, and it works great. just this weekend i must have left something on overnight, it was so dead in the morning the horn couldnt even honk. 20 minutes on the charger and it cranked it fine.
what out of business? the OP asked for opinions and got them.....if optima does not like what happened with the brand new dead battery i was sent they should take steps to prevent it. I'm not going to sit here and pretend that didn't happen when it did.Do you think the OP should only get told about good experiences people had with optima's just cause you like yours?

that's a nice DIY write up...only thing i might add is to check the voltage on the new battery with a meter before you install it (optima or any brand). Just because it's new doesn't mean it has a good charge and a simple check can save you alot of time and frustration. I should have thought to check mine before i put it in, now i know.
Good point thanks for the tip. I would have never though of that with a new battery. You know, it might be that because we use a weird style (reverse terminals) that our batteries sit on the shelf for a long time before being used.
