Re: My system w/pics

bkchang,
The RMB8's are shallow 8" drivers. They have no problem with clearance in the rear. I believe the mounting diameter of the driver is a little less than 8", probably 7.5" or so. You have to cut a hole large enough for the driver to fit. I just used a jig saw with a metal cutting blade and it worked just fine.

aorbeta,
I really like what you did with the center console! Did you do all the work yourself?

Take care,

Re: My system w/pics

dtrip,
There's an old thread about how I did the monitor install. Look here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/showfla...&part=all&vc=1

and here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/showfla...&part=all&vc=1

Those two threads should tell you all you need to know. If you have more specific questions, fell free to pm me!

Re: My system w/pics

blksnake,
yep, did all the work myself. The center console was a little time consuming. I actually destroyed my original lower dash piece trying to drill the holes. No problem, a new one costs a whopping $12 or something silly like that from Grubbs. That includes the leather boot as well. The holes aren't exactly perfect, but you can't tell. If you plan on doing this, use a high speed drill press, and drill from the back. btw, I love your sub box! gonna try to make one this weekend.

Re: My system w/pics

Nope, it's not a touchscreen. Just a regular LCD. It's a 7" LCD monitor kit that I purchased from Caltron Industries. www.caltronind.com

Re: My system w/pics

Nice job.. I completely forgot about your install when I decided to make a carpuer rather than do pioneer avic DIN stuff.. damn that was foolish of me.

You have any pics of the LCD cover closed? I couldn't find any from your other posts. I know you were talking about making it go up and down only after you made it motorized... any updates on that?

Just wondering how it'll look, especially since those rubber things not being covered.

For me, making the LCD concealed was HUGE, especially for theft reasons.

And how about the angle you have it sitting at? Is it aiming up enough so you can view it easily? Is it aiming low enough so that sunlight just kills the display?

Thanks for any help.

Re: My system w/pics

wizawuza,
I never got the LCD to close. I attempted to motorize it a few times but concluded that there just wasn't enough space. So the LCD just sits there in the up position.

The little rubber feet I hardly notice at all. The angle of the screen is perfect. It's easy to view and the LCD looks "comfortable" sitting there. Almost natural like they meant to put it there. I get some washing out because of sunlight, but not much.

I will probably leave it like it is. I would like to have it go up and down, but am pretty much sick of working on it

Re: My system w/pics

Are you sure about the horns? You can achieve better results using a high end tweeter or home audio drivers that are easier to install. IMO, the horns are way too sensative.

Re: My system w/pics

bkchang79,
Actually, the horns are already installed. I installed them yesterday. They were not that hard to install. I have a 6-speed DG like yourself and the mini-horns don't even get in the way. I can hardly tell that they are there. Unfortunately, I have to modify the kick panel covers on both sides of the car for the driver to fit, but that's not that big of a deal.

As for sound, they rock!!! I have a little aiming to do with the driver side horn to improve the soundstage, but overall they sound great. I've always wanted horns after hearing an install at a car show a few years back that had minihorns.

What do you mean by sensitive? As in too loud because of the 100+ db sensitivity that they are rated at? If that's the case, I can adjust the level of the horns independently from the midbasses and the sub through my crossover and the fader control on my eq.
