Satellite antenna/window tint question

For those of you with your Sirius or XM satelllite antenna mounted inside the car on the rear deck, does window tinting affect the signal? Thanks.

Re: Satellite antenna/window tint question

h2omaan I have a question? I purchased the terk xm micro antenna and the Infiniti dealership told me that I should not install it because the xm micro antenna is low profile and I will have lots of drop outs compare to the factory antenna which is high profile. What do you or other people think and is what they told me true?

Re: Satellite antenna/window tint question

My 5% non metallic tint killed my signal on my rear deck so I moved the antenna to the dash right next to the VIN plate.

Re: Satellite antenna/window tint question

i have never heard of that or experienced that problem. I am using the samllest delphi XM antenna w/ the splitter box and i have never had a drop out of signal . as long as the antenna can see the sky clearly and it doesnt have to go through metal than it will work fine. like i said mine is under my wing and it works great and best of all u cant see it !!!!!

Re: Satellite antenna/window tint question

satellite signals (which are radio waves) travel thru "line of sight"

If you can see thru with your eyes, then the signal will travel thru.

So, yes, tint will affect satellite radio wave reception. The lighter tints may not affect that much, but 5% limo tint will definitely block reception.
