Most Pioneer units wont' work with just the USB. They send the album art, song data and such over USB, but audio is received by the AUX inputs on the radio. The Pioneer cable has a USB connector and a 3.5mm (audio & video) that comes off the 30-pin iPod connector.

The Pioneer units and the iPod assume that audio is coming via the 30-pin connector, so it will send via that route. You can override that behavior by plugging a 3.5mm plug into the headphone jack on the iPod *after* the Pioneer unit has connected, but it will forget that it's supposed to send via that route once the radio reconnects or is powered off/on with the iPod connected, so you'll have to unplug and plug the 3.5mm aux cable in and out of the iPod after the headunit is powered on and connected if you choose to use the standard USB-to-30-pin connector and a 3.5mm to 3.5mm aux connector. This was tedious enough that I was willing to pay for the Pioneer iPod cable. eBay cables tend to be hit or miss, as some try and send the video channel where the audio channels are supposed to be, and some won't also send video over the connector at all.

Yeah, he's got the art showing and such, but audio doesn't go digitally over the usb, so it needs to be connected to both the usb and aux on the pioneer. If your pac cable connected to usb and the aux, you didn't waste money.

i've been looking into navi/DD units. what do you guys think about the alpine ina-w910, pioneer avic-z130BT, or the kenwood dnx7180.

i also wanted to ask the people using the kenwood navi units, are the kenwood units slow? i was looking at the videos on their site and it seems like there's a slight lag

thanks!

yes some of the newer kenwood units are really slow.

I dont know how the can release them being that slow. I love my Kenwood DD but the new ones need a firmware update.

I have the pioneer z130bt and I love it. Everything runs smoothly for me. I also liked the Kenwood unit because a close friend of mine has it. But it did seem a bit laggy, but I like the UI better than my pioneer.

Everything about the Z130 is great except for the navigation data source. The navigation itself i good, but the POI and roads database seems to be out of date compared to ones that use garmin or google's data source.

I would have to agree. The units that use garmin are far superior, but they always lack in other areas. I wish they would consult with the users when they are designing these things so we can tell them what WE want. Also, I hate that they dont come with remotes anymore, kinda bugs me!

No, I haven't but a buddy of mine feels about alpine as i do about pioneer. He loves it to death, I havent played with it yet. I use mine for navigation a lot and the navi on my pioneer isnt the greatest, so I'm in the market for a new one. I will check his out and see how I like it.

I just meant that the actual navigation was fine. The poi and road databases both seemed lacking or inaccurate.

Still beats factory navigation though.
