XM Receiver Software Update?

Hey All,

Still researching getting XM, and a had another question.

I ran across a post at another forum that mentioned the newer XM receivers may get a software/firmware update that fixes some problems with the current one. My dealer has told me that the XM receivers are on national backorder until July, which I assume is the rollout of the update.

Grubbs has them in stock, so I assume they have the old model, without the update.

What will be the difference with the newer software? What were the problems with the older software? From what I read, I thought that they worked pretty well.

Should I wait until July and order from my dealer to ensure I get the newer model, or will the old one be fine?

Thanks in advance

Re: XM Receiver Software Update?

Some people, including myself, have a recurring problem with the XM unit locking up and displaying "LOADING". The only way to reset it when this happens is to turn off the ignition completely. Although the occurances of this problem are rare (for most people), it does seem to happen several times a month, often in a particular geographic area.

There is a member over on FA who has been in contact with Infiniti/Clarion and has a beta test unit in his car with revised firmware. Although nothing has been released officially, there is speculation that an updated firmware will be released soon for all receivers. That member also reports that his beta firmware does not fix the onset of the "LOADING" problem, but does sense it and enable an auto-reset without you having to turn the car off and back on.
