Potential NAV solution in Coupe

I have regretted not buying the stock NAV since about the day I bought my coupe. I have even considered trading in my '04 coupe for an '05 with NAV if the rumors about HP increase come true. Anyway, if I do not trade in, what are some of the better aftermarket NAV solutions. I am concerned about getting both a good unit and the placement of that unit in the vehicle. I would really like a "classy" install and am willing to pay to make sure everything looks good. I imagine I am going to have to find the right shop, which concerns me a little also. I live in Birmingham, AL, and I am not aware of a great shop in town.

Nothing beats the fit of the stock Nav. I empathize with your missing the Nav. It has been worth twice what I paid for it. I would wait for the 05 or pick up a gently used 03-04, but that's just my 2 cents.

Re: Potential NAV solution in Coupe

i disagree, the stock NAV is not really that great. For $2000 you could get something MUCH better with more functionality and better sound (pretty much any brand-named aftermarket Headunit is better than the G's)

I bought my 6MT Coupe without any options for a reason, Saved myself over $4200 for Blows audio and Navigation.

So Instead, i bought the AVIC-N1 Nav/mp3/dvd/rear-view/Entertainment unit for $1600, the double-din dash kit for $400, and a dvd/mp3/vcd/tv-tuner in-dash player for $150.

The stock speakers now sound 10 times better with this headunit than with the stock unit. Its all about the increased speaker voltage and EQ controls.

So..... if you trade-in your coupe, you will lose ALOT of money. Probably around 3 grand, plus an additional 2 grand payment increase that you have to pay for the new Navigation unit.

I would just get an aftermarket solution. It all starts with the $400 double-din dash kit. After that, the possibilities are ENDLESS. There are total over 10 really good navigation units/screens on the market from Pioneer, Eclipse, Kenwood, Alpine, etc...
I will post pics of my setup sometime.

The AVIC-N1 is a good unit. The only thing i dislike is the seemingly corrupt map data. Tele-atlas claims to have 12 million POI database, but many important POI's are missing, Pioneer is aware of this though so they are working on a fix, hopefully soon!

There is an official online forum for the N1, so the Pioneer guys are listening to our suggestions

Otherwise, its a GREAT piece of equipment.
