blown amp & sub?!

so i had my system hitting the other night driving around when all of a sudden i noticed the bass stopped. the next day, it still didnt work so, i checked wires, connections, blah blah. all good. i then disconnected the sub and hooked it up to my buddies amp and NOTHING. i then hooked his sub up to my amp and NOTHING.. did i just blow both my sub and amp? im currently running 2ohms with 1 alpine 12" type-x (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500SWX1...D.html?tp=111). with a alpine mrd-m1001 (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500MRDM...detailed_info).. just throwing this out there, i've blown subs before and theres that burnt smell.. the type-x does not smell at all. SOME ONE HELP ME PLEASE!

NUMBER 1!!!! Check your fuse by the battery and the fuses on the amp
does the amp still have a power light come on?
could be the rcas so have you tried hooking another amp up to your wiring?

Is the amp in protect (usually signified by a red light on the amp). When pushing down on the cone (evenly) do you hear scratching (don't push down too much)? You can use a digital multimeter to check the impedence of the coils to verify they are the same and reading the proper impedence.

there is no red light and the amp should be fine but cant figure it out. i pushed down on the sub and heard a scratch but when i did it again, nothing. what does that mean anyways? im going to dig up my multimeter to check the impedence on the sub. THANKS BTW!

Could be the first time you pushed down the cone it was unevenly or possibly a little too much. If you slightly push too much one one side, the coil will rub against the pole piece and you'll hear a scratching sound. If you can do it numerous times and it doesn't scratch then it's safe to say that the coil is still aligned...actually this would be more if you have a weird sound coming from the sub when it plays.

However, if the cone was super stiff and would not move, then the sub would be a dud. As for the amp, not sure what to recommend. I'd call up Alpine and see what they say.

if you don't push down the sub evenly you will hear the the voicecoil rubbing. it's not a big deal. but you definitely need to check the impedance of the voicecoil with a multimeter

i ended up buyin a new A/V filter converter box and it fixed my problem for the amp. i still cant figure out how my old one broke. i then hooked up my cousins subs and everything worked fine. i then hooked my type x back up to my amp with fingers crossed and.. nothing. still havent had the time to check the impedence on the sub though.. this sucks..
