Amp and speaker wiring accessories help noob
Amp and speaker wiring accessories help noob
Can anyone help me out by listing what I would need to do an amp and component speaker install? Like what wires and other things I need to get. I have a 2004 nonpremium coupe.
I want to go with:
CDT Audio EF-61CF components and the CL6 midbass speakers. So that means I need a 4 chan amp right? These speakers are rated at 125w rms.
I'm looking at Pheonix Gold amps Phoenix Gold R8.0:4.
And then I wanna get an Infinity Basslink.
What is the capacitor for? do I need one?
Do I need an Line level convertor? And what kinda amp wiring kit do I need? Any other cables/connectors?
Thanks, any advice appreciated.

I did a quick search, and I don't see speaker-level or high-level inputs listed as a feature for that Phoenix Gold amp. So, it appears you'd need a line output converter if you wanted to use that amp. You may check out other amps that have that feature to save some money on the LOC.
The basslink does not need a line output converter.
If you're talking about a stiffening cap, you would most likely not need one with the Basslink. Capacitors help deliver quick surges of power in mega-wattage systems. On other threads there's some discussion of replacing the capcitor that's attached to the Bose tweeter to allow lower frequencies into the tweeter. That's irrelevant if you replace the front door speakers altogether, as it will come with its own crossover network.
As far as wiring kits, you'll want a power wire coming in from the battery. Be sure there's a fuse where the wire attaches to the battery. Since you have more than one device, you'll want a distribution block, and some shorter lengths of power cable to hook it up. You'll also want to buy appropriate crimp-on lug ends if your wires aren't manufactured with ends on them. You'll need some ground wires too. Also get some sand paper so you can sand off the bolt that you decide to connect the ground wires too.

Re: Amp and speaker wiring accessories help noob
I think in another thread, PPI was mentioned as having built in LLC. Didn't see it on their website. It just says that they have high voltage input capability with selectable 12db attenuation.
Do any other brands have it built it?

Re: Amp and speaker wiring accessories help noob
I noticed that my speakers are rated at 130w rms. Looking at most amps in my budget..$200-$400, the highest rated is 125rms x 4 at 4ohms and that's a little over the $400 range. Ideally i want to stay in the $300 which I can find 75-80w rms x4. Would this be enough to power the speakers?
Also I hear some amps are "under rated". Is this true? if so how do you know the true power?
