^ you have several options. namely, do you want powered or non-powered and do you want one for only iPods or for iPods/iPhones.
if you just want a powered iPod one it'll look like this. a non-powered version looks the same less the small red live wire and black ground wire.
if you need one to work for a iPod and iPhone, it'll look like this. note the yellow video wire - you need this cable for the iPhone even if you do NOT plan to connect the video wire...just tape off the yellow RCA wire and leave it unplugged. again, a non-powered version will look the same less the small red and black wire.
i've purchased one from both of these ebay vendors for $10-$20 plus shipping and would recommend either - they both sell the cables mentioned above:
Exclusive Parts HK
12 Volt Parts
i'm almost 100% sure that to get the 3G to charge you'll need an adapter like this.

fishhouse... the link i included earlier says (about the ic-av2) that it works for all ipods and iphones... i assume that means that it will successfully charge the iphone 3G also..... or am i wrong to assume that?

they are $35 at this site....
http://www.jazzyengineering.com/prod...products_id=51
and that is almost the only place i can find it
i guess i'll just buy it since i got the PAC unit for only $70 shipped on ebay when it's normally $99
is hooking up the power wires simple to do while following the various guides for installing the PAC?

nice - yea i picked mine up on ebay for the same...we might of got it from the same seller.
my how-to at my site www.myG35mods.com walks you through everything - all and all it's very easy.
as far as the power wire specifically, i used a small wire tap and spliced into the live cigarette lighter wire (it was green i believe) and the used one of the metal screws holding in the headunit for the ground.
