Anyone know about programming a transponder key? I know dealerships do it, but I've heard locksmiths can too. Is this true? If so, anyone know if it's cheaper to get a spare key programmed at a locksmith instead?

I'm thinking of picking one up on eBay and doing this on the cheap.

I had my flip key programed by a locksmith and he did it for free with my AAA card. Either way I am sure a locksmith would be cheaper than the dealer. You have to make sure they have the equipment and codes to do it though. The regular locksmith I usually use could not do it but he recommended one who did.

 

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. I was gonna get AAA anyway, so it wouldn't hurt to do that and try to get my spare key programmed for free.
