engine noise after stereo install, plz help

after a 12 hour night, my buddy and i finished putting in an audiocontrol EQS, alphine 5 channels, and boston acustic pro 6.5 for the front. the car sounds better and clear. but i am waiting for the right sub to make it complete.

however, when i drove it out today, i realized the engine sound. right now, we have both unit ground at a screw right below the original bose amp bracket. the EQS sits on top of the bracket while the alpine is on the back seat. the power comes from battery to the amp, and another power from amp to the EQS.

Any suggestions?? is this a ground issues?

thanks. by the way, big problem with the remote access wire which i will post separately. thanks.

you have some type of grounding issue. Did you ground your ground ponints to BARE metal (scraped the paint off?). Also check the manual on your audio control unit. I bet is has a ground selection (you may have to open the unit) and would cure your engine noise problem. I had a four.1 EQ and I had this feature.

thanks, my EQS has a jumper to avoid this problem and allow multiple grounding. but i did it exactly, and still got it.... *&(*#*(#(*#, made this 12 hour job all not worth it. shouldn've taken it to the shop.

where did you ground the wire? Please tell you you made it fairly short and ground it to the chasis (with no paint on the surface, sanded). If not that may be your problem.

Re: engine noise after stereo install, plz help

both the EQS and the alpine amp are ground together right below the OEM Boss amp bracket. there is an existing screw there. no paint on it. but we filed it anyway. i even added a washer at base to make sure proper contact. the wire runs from the amp (sitting on the back seat). i would say the ground is around 5 feet. it goes belwo the seat and almost straight to the ground..... thanks so much for your help...

Re: engine noise after stereo install, plz help

i had engine noise also, the fix for me was to remove the bose amp and go from the hu to the jl amps directly.

Re: engine noise after stereo install, plz help

Try unmounting the EQS from the bose bracket. If the metal of the eqs touches the bracket, it will cause the bose amp bracket to become a ground connection.

Next, your RCAs are running alongside the factory speaker/power/sat tuner wiring. It shouldn't be a problem but try grabbing another set of of RCAs and loosely plug them into your amp away from those wires to see if it affects the noise. It's not a bad idea to check with another set of RCAs anyway to verify that the cables are good.

Don't think of it as wasted time. At least you'll only be paying a shop to troubleshoot and not to spend 4 hours just doing basic install stuff.

Re: engine noise after stereo install, plz help

i tried many things.... finally took it to the shop. they regrounded the amp with bigger and shorter wire, but no help. they did more inspection for another hour and nothing worked. their last conclusion was to by-pass the EQS and use a LOC, which made the noise went away.

So the conclusion was to bypass the EQS. as i was driving home, it just didn't make that much sense. so i took the car to mobile fantasy who is an authorized audiocontrol dealer. they offered to sell me the LOC to solve my problem (as I told them), or inspect for me and charge me labor. it was not pleasant since i just paid another shop to do so. but i went for it.

10 minutes later, the guys was done. not a single noise!!! apparently you have to play with the jumpers in the EQS unit. someone has suggested this in the thread, and i actually folloed the EQS manual and removed a jumper. but i guess i didn't do it right. anyway, best 65 dollars i ever spent. no more engine noise. wish i had gone to them for trouble shoot and saved few hours of charge.

thanks everyone.
