***COME LOOK*** New ipod placement

Hey all, my laptop is broken so i will add pictures later, i have the pdf for the design, but thats all for now. Ive been working in my engineering classes with solid works and have come up with a design for a direct replacement for the ashtray/cigarette lighter that will hold your ipod touch/iphone.

Here is the file for the design. I am having one made this week to test fit in my car. Installation is easy, its unclipping a 12V cable and unscrewing and rescrewing 4 screws. It will be made of plastic for now, but anyone with access to a 3D printer can make it in the finish of their choosing.

Once i get one that i like and will work with my setup, ill begin making a few more for people who would be interested for cost plus a few bucks for my hours of making this.

Notice:
You have to have a digital ipod interface for this to work (plugs into the serial port not the headphone port. You can switch off the ipod using the lock button. Ipod touch version is the one shown.

EDIT: 05-07 G35 Coupes Only. forgot the older style had a different setup.

UPDATE
Here is the first prototype, works well, trying to find a better interfacing app for landscape view (playlists are hard to skip songs, etc.) otherwise its amazing, ive already had some interest!:

Will be moving the ipod UP so it is centered, ill keep this posted!

Looks pretty sweet man. I just picked up an ipod touch and haven't looked into hooking it up in my car yet. Hopefully I can just connect it to my original bose deck and I'll order one of these from you.

1 question, how will the ipod attach to this holder?

The ipod will snap into the holster like a case (i took most of my measurements from a case i purchased)

the one i have made is solid and the ipod is definately in there for sure, then when you need to take it out it isnt impossible. Any ideas will be considered though.

yep, but it's a process. Prototype, china folk, sample product, price vs quantity.
I'm interested in seeing how it attaches and what finishes you'll use. Good luck!

Maybe you could even screw it in by your right leg and not have to sacrafice anything out of your car. Just grab it and click it back in when your not using it.

the ipod will flush mount in the device and the device will be permanently mounted flush with the rest of the console. Think of it as a removable Double Din, but an ipod touch or iphone instead.

Coming along every day!!!
