Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

Thanks guys.

Awesome - makes use of the rather useless SAT pre-wire up here in Canada since we have no (legal) SAT subscription service.

I'm sold...

Ahhh damn its on backorder!

Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

The Phatbox is the same thing as the Kenwood Music Keg. I wonder if Kenwood makes it for them or vice versa. I am thinking about adding one to my Kenwood 7015..

Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

I ordered my Phatbox 2 days ago; they have already shipped it to me. After ordering, Phatnoise sent me an email asking which cable I would prefer, there were 2 choices. One was a standard cable for my 6 disk in dash changer and there was another beta cable that would enable the name of the ID3 tags to be displayed on the HU. They also said that this software is still beta and maybe a bit buggy at times.
I opted for the beta cable, which cable did you get?

Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

I got the standard cable. I'd rather have a stable connection with no bugs. The purpose of the voice prompts is so that you don't have to look at the display and can keep your eyes on the road. So displaying ID3 tags would kinda defeat the purpose. It would add to the 'cool' factor.....until it crashes on you lol!

Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

So is it not possible to have the voice recognition with the beta cable, only the ID3 tags displayed?

Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

standard cable = voice recognition
beta cable = voice recognition+ ID3 tags displayed

Eventually the beta cable will replace the standard cable once all the bigs are ironed out.

Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

couple of things. Just to clarify this does not have voice "recognition" but voice prompting. It will say things over the speakers to help you navigate, but it does not recognize voice commands you give it.

Also, it is my understanding that the scrolling display with track information is a function of the software you are using. If you have the sat beta cable, you will be able to use either the "sat" software which supports the scrolling text or the standard software which does not. The standard software has the voice prompts and I think the sat software supports the voice prompts too, but haven't used it so i can't say for sure.

Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

Red, I was curious of what anchored the box in your tunk. On the left side of the trunk (driver side) is a piece of plastic that looks like it has promise. I haven't looked to see whats under it, yet. Is it safe to drill into? Is that what you used or was it something else in the trunk?

Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

yeah, that plastic piece on that side is hollow underneath and i drilled thru the mat into that. The screws they send are a little small, but i used them and they are holding just fine.

I experimented with some other mounting locations, but liked that spot the best. Put mine facing the back seat so the cartridge is less likely to get hit by some cargo in the trunk.

Yes, that plastic piece is hollow. The BOSE amp normally resides underneath (coupe).I removed it from my car to install my hidden sub enclosure. Here are a few pics:

Re: Phatbox is pretty fat!

B33R: few things i have learned you might want to be aware of. It seems to be very particular about file names and tags. I was getting a "corrupt track" error that i think was being caused by either a) file names that were too long b) apostrophies or odd characters in the filename or tags c) file named .MP3 (upper case) insted of .mp3 (lower case). Guess you gotta be careful with the naming. After i renamed some files and re uploaded everything, the error was gone.

Also for everything to work properly you have to be sure to get the artist/genre/album names exactly the same in the tags. It will view "Notorious BIG" as a different artist than "Notorious B.I.G." etc.
