Mounting amp(s): anything goes?
Mounting amp(s): anything goes?
Does it matter if they are mounted upside down? How much surrounding air is actually needed to prevent it from overheating? I understand that it should be relatively secure, but what if there is some free play? I plan to mount my sub amp in the stock BOSE-amp location, except it will be mounted upside down fastened to the plastic spare tire "hugger." However, I couldn't find a suitable location for my 4-channel amp which is quite large, so I was thinking of keeping that on the surface and just using velcro to have it stick to the trunk mat. It will be tucked away in the right corner by the tail lamp. I know it's kind of ghetto, but will that pose any type of problem? My main concern is trunk space and ease of removal if need be. That seems to be the best solution.

Re: Mounting amp(s): anything goes?
Sup Afro,
Velcro may not work well on the trunk mat material....its not course enough..it may slide around....The upside down should be fine the only thing is AMP heat and the plastic ...dont know if it may melt it or distort it....you may wanna get some wood maybe 1/2" and mount that to "tire hugger" and then mount amp to wood....
Why dont you mount the 4 chan thru the trunk mat into the plastic underneath (if you dont mind making a hole in your mat) give the wires some slack this way if you get a flat you can lift the spare wheel cover (with amp attached) and get to your spare...also maybe you wanna get some 1" peices of wood (4 of them) drill a hole in them so the screws threw them and the amp will sit above the carpet but be secure....so you do have some air flow under the amp...for the amount of power you're pushin
Just suggestions.....
