Question for guys with v1 and mikesmount
Saw a couple guys on here have the V1 with the mikes mount on their rear view mirror I was just wondering what do cops say to you guys when they see your radar detector. I know they are legal in some places but does the cop acknowledge that its there or say nothing at all. Mind you I have never used a radar detector once. None of my friends have them because neither me nor any of them ever feel the need for speed on the public roads. I was just very curious because I recently got a job about an hour drive from my house and I was contemplating getting a radar detector since it is a long drive and its mainly all high way.
Sorry if its a noob question but I just was curious.
Thanks guys.

i've never gotten pulled since i had my V1. although i don't use it as much anymore after a recent move to VA (where they are illegal). but, if they're legal in your State then they can "say" all they want...nothing they can do about it legally - they're not illegal.
now, will he pity you and give you that warning ticket considering he sees a radar detector (which in most case you'd only own if you choose to speed) sitting on your dash...probably not.

Ah that's why I love Florida.
The supreme court decision on this here was basically, "if the police have the right to clandestinely monitor you, you have the right to know if you are being clandestinely monitored."

Hes the one who makes them
Back OT, I've been pulled over twice and no ones said anything about it
Both times the copes weren't even using radar and I was let off with verbal warnings both times, one didn't even ask for any of my paperwork or insurance.

The use of a radar detector in a passenger vehicle is legal in all states with the exception of Virginia, Washington DC. and while on military bases.
In Canada, the only three provinces that allow their use are Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
Many overseas countries also ban their use, such as Portugal, Finland and Spain.

I think you guys are all misunderstanding the intent of the poster's question...
The radar detector is legal is most places.... However, usually (at least around here), when you get pulled over and the cop sees your radar detector, he will just give you a ticket without even asking you how fast your were going, etc.
Both my wife and I have gotten pulled over with the detector still mounted before, that's exactly what happened. Cop commented about the "nice radar detector", then handed over the ticket. Cops will just assume (I'm overgeneralizing probably), that if you have a radar detector, your intent is to try to speed without getting caught. One time cop didn't even ask me for my drivers license, just asked if the car was mine, and I said yes, then he handed me my ticket, and jumped back on his bike.
That's why I later busted the pin off my power cable, so it can be easily removed when necessary. One time I was blatantly speeding down an empty road with no buildings or sidestreets, just empty cull-de-sacs.
Anyways I was going 20 over the speed limit. I passed a cop hiding on the inside of one of the cul-de-sacs. Radar detector didn't go off, but I knew I was caught, because it's obvious when you are going 20 over. Before he had a chance to pull out, I quickly pulled out my detector, and tossed it on the floor.
When I got pulled over, the cop asked me about my speed, I said I was going 20 over, yadda yadda yadda... Cop gave me a warning and told me to not get carried away on empty streets, etc, etc. He even warned me this is a heavily enforced area...
So essentially, yes, the detector is legal, and cop can't say anything about you having it, but that won't stop the cop from pre-judging you for using one.
(For me, my V1 has found less and less value, as it seems everyone around here uses laser now. It mostly serves as a photo-radar detector now)

^ Like I said I've been pulled over with it in plain site twice and both officers didn't care. It really depends on the officer, not all of them have that attitude some are even car guys that know what its like to be in our positions. Its a possibility but not a certainty.
