Speakers making whinning noise?

I removed the stock amp and speakers and put in amped front speakers and amped subs. Now i get this distortion from the front speakers when the car isnt even on, and when i turn it on i get a whine that gets higher pitched as the engine revs higher. I heard that the problem could be grounding, my amps and crossover are grounded on one bolt, should i ground them in different places, could that help?

Re: Speakers making whinning noise?

Oddly enough, I was expecting major whine/noise from my setup since I am a complete n00b when it comes to car audio. I fired that sucker up and its crystal clear. I even created a blank audio track and played that on the highway. No distortion or whining at all. I wish I could offer some sound advice but all I can do is explain how my system is currently setup. My power and audio cables are bundled together which is another thing that can cause noise, but they must be properly shielded (high quality).

I have my amp fuse holder mounted on top of the fuse box next to the battery. About a 1 foot cable from the battery runs to it. Then I went down the passenger side of the car to the trunk, where it goes into a distribution block. 1 for my 4 channel amp and 1 for my sub amp. I have my rca cables and sub cable running with the power cable to the back. The ground cables for the amp are between 1 and 1.5 feet. I did not scrape the paint off from the frame, because I wanted to see if I would get alternator noise first. The sub and speaker amps are grounded on two separate bolts. Nothing else is grounded with them. I am using the stock speaker wiring.

My suggestion is to make sure your ground cables are less than 1.5 feet and use different ground points for them. Make sure nothing else is grounded on that bolt, so you don't want to use the rear tail light ground just because its easier. Do you have anything else in your setup like a capacitor? Try removing that if you have one, just to see if that is the culprit.

Check your grounds, experiment with new ground locations. If you're using a line output converter, keep the RCAs (and the LOC itself) away from power wires. Make sure your gains aren't up too high, too. If you have LOCs you want to start out with them at the maximum gain, with the amps at the lowest gain.
