GPS Suggestions and mounting it in the Cubby Hole

Well, my blackbird wont work for my HU, so what regular GPS's are you guys using and how did you mount them in your little cubby holes? Im not a fan of it sitting on the windshield. Looks tacky IMO.

Thanks in advance!

LG LN735. I used peel & stick Velcro (about 1.5 inches square) inside the lid of the cubby and on the back of the unit. The underside of the lid is perfectly flat and vertical when open. Depending on the size of your GPS, you should still be able flip the lid up and down without a problem.

EDIT: That's in an '05 sedan. The cubby could be different for other years.

Just curious, how did it not work? Something defective? Or is it some sort of connection issue?

I'll see what I can do. The car's embarrassingly dirty in mid-winter.

Not designed for this model (the w205). I'd need a newer model Blackbird but i read they arent very good anyways so i'll just get a different GPS with higher ratings than spending $300~ on a BMD200 or w/e its called.

Did you talk to Alpine and mention you would use the navi connection on the rear? They may have gotten confused with you wanting to put the Blackbird I into the slot in the front, which only the Blackbird II would work. Doesn't make sense to have a navi plug in the rear if a navi won't work with it, unless there is another model, which I think there is. I'd double check so you don't have to pay more.

But yeah, I'd recommend another GPS unit if going with something else. Much better ones than the Blackbird out there.

Lol, whatever works. Should still be able to get a decent amount since you have the docking station. Try posting on craigslist as well if you decide to sell.

I have a widescreen 4.3" Mio Gps unit and I love it. It reads SD cards (currently 8gig) I hacked it so its running windows CE in addition to the original Navi OS. I was gonna post it up for sale soon.

The navigation software and interface is better than my new eclipse 6620. It has 3D "bird eye" view which is really cool. and it warns you when a red light camera is coming up!

I would highly reccomend any of the Mio gps units. they're on top of their game

ive got a garmin nuvi 750 fitted quite nicely in my 04 coupe. i pulled the cubby, took out the screws for the door, cut the "ball" off of the suction mount that came with the garmin, and then ran a screw through from the backside into the ball, popped the cubby cover back on and it looks great. door opens and closes without touching or removing the unit

Not sure if this will help or not...but I have an XM radio unit in my cubby mounted on the door. It came with a swivel mount that can either be screwed on or mounted with adhesive. Sticks on pretty well. For my GPS I use my cell mounted to the console with a pro clips mount. I wish it were higher, but it works.

Sorry for the crappy pics...too lazy to actually take a good pic of them.
