anyone with aftermarket use 8" in the rear doors?
i'm tall, so my seat sits far enough back that i'm pretty sure it won't mess up my soundstage, mainly curious if it will fit, as i'll have to make a coupe mdf spacers, so some of the space between the doorframe and the door panel will be used up by that, i'm not sure though... anyone do this WITHOUT fiberglassing(i'd really prefer not to glass, aside from my HU, everything looks stock)?
TIA!
mods, please don't move this as info from coupe owners will be useless to my application.

So put sedan in the title...
This is why we have an audio section. Even if I don't do it, one of the other mods will move it pretty soon. I'll leave it for now.

woops, my bad, thought it'd be enough that it was in the sedan section. i'll change it. i had to put spacers in to make the 6.5 focals fit in my fronts... but to do it in the rear, i was thinking of doing two spacers,in order to make it fit in the rear... what i'm wondering is if there's enough room to do that...
It may be possible with the right shallow 8's like the old MB Quart mid-bass but it will be very tight. Also the grille is smaller so you will block a lot of it. Best bet would be to go with a good set of 6.5's.

Ummmm how many concerts have you been to where you had your back to the band?? You want to get as much frequency range as possible up front not split the difference front to rear. It would be better if you deaded the front door as much as possible and used foam baffles to lower your frequency range. Bigger drivers does not mean deeper mid-bass frequencies.
Go smaller, it's a car not a stage. You do not need 8" speakers unless they're in the trunk. You'd be better off spending more money on smaller premo sounding speakers than anything 8"
I'm extremely satisfied with my infinity kappa perfect components and 6.5's in the rear. Just find a good set of 6.5's and amplify them properly then you're good to go.
1) why this isn't in the audio section idk. as it should be there.
2) if you sit as far back as you say you do i don't think the sound stage will be pulled back much if at all because the midbass will be right at your ear, but 2.5ft down in the door.
3) what you really want is kickpanels for your focals, 8'' mid basses in your WELL deadened door and to run active.
thx for trying to contribute but you are 100% wrong.
mid bass is semi directional. speaker is right at his head, but 2.5 ft lower. souldn't pull his sound stage back much if at all.
foam baffles that lower his frequency range? wtf are you talking about? really, i'd love to know.
a bigger driver is better in this case. best midbasses i'v ever heard were 8s. EOD.
perfects yeah....
6.5s coaxials or comps in the rear doors will screw up his sound stage and bring it back. midbasses are the only option.

haha, ok. Projection on an 8" is way beyond the 3.5 feet across the back seat of the car. there is no need for projecting sound 10 feet out your windows unless you're a real *** hole who is purely about showing off.
Need some underglow too?

This is in the SEDAN section because I have a SEDAN, and wanted to hear replies from like applications. Coupe owners are of no interest to me in this particular subject.
I'm further not really interested in a spirited debate on SQ. I know what I like and what my preferences are. If I can't fit the 8s then ill look into something like cadence 6.5 components,(except in silk, not metal). If you think I should do something different, grrrreat. But, I don't care.

oh! and no neons for me! thx for the suggestion tho i do however have one for you! ditch the infinity comps. anything sold at bestbuy for car audio generally sucks. while it is better then stock don't get me wrong, for the money you can get much better speakers. aside type aarrghhhs but the price still blows...either way it fails. i'd rather have car parts made in Mongolian caves myself. you know?
op: i still think it would be better in the car audio section because the gurus there, could better answer your question i think. but i could be wrong. hey i got coaxials in my rears. i prefer it myself. anywho i'd throw 8s back there and call it a day. should sound pretty damn good if you ask me. i would suggest deadening all the doors it'll help increase your midbass response alot. roll of rammat and you'll be set. want me to recommend some 8s for you?
