very dissappointed with metra dash kit :[
I knew the metra kit was ugly but i never knew about its fitment issues. Yesterday, I spent over 14 hours trying to install my Pioneer Avh-ph4000dvd. When I finally took the stock HU out and took off the navi and installed the navi and my pioneer HU onto the metra kit, my navi control buttons were slanted and would not allign properly. Same for the navi itself, its not alligned and it is slanted. After putting everyback together, I cant even bring up the navi unless i try to pull it up with my fingers from both sides for about 15 seconds. Not only that, I had no idea how to wire the light-green wire from my aftermarket HU wire harness (this is my first time installing an aftermarket stereo into a car). Because of that, I cant even watch ANY DVDS. I couldn't find the other wire that would match up the light-green wire. Now I need to take the whole thing apart again just to fix my dvd issue when i figure it out. ~___~; I should have just gone with the JDM dash kit =\
easiest way to get videos is to take that light green and solder and tape it to the black wire. presto chango you've got video
try loosening the screws holding in the nav. I initially had the same problems with the JDM kit- not as bad though. once you loosen it off it should popup more on it's own. you may still have to pull it up once and a while

And yes, solder is necessary, don't twist and tape. When stuff randomly stops working 3 months down the road and you have to tear it all out again to troubleshoot, you'll be wishing you would have. Crimp connectors are better, but I wouldn't recommend them either. Go get yourself some solder and some shrink tube and go at it.
Read up on the headunit and bypass the e-brake check while you're at it. Might just involve grounding that green/white wire, or it might be more than that.
Just a heads up, even if you went with a JDM kit, you still wouldn't have a "match up" for the light green wire. That is the parking brake wire. Pretty much every Pioneer I have seen comes with a tag on that wire that signifies that it is a parking brake wire. You are supposed to tap into your parking brake, but you can always get around that if you want to watch while driving.

JDM kit or not its tight behind the HU.
When you have aditional wires such as GPS, Bluetooth, sterring wheel controls, etc it gets TIGHT
Also this is not a great car to do your first HU on.....but I guess you figured that out
