a tom tom is about 2-3 hundred dollars and the updates are free. and we have to spend $200 every year for a new disk? just to see it pop up in the car is not worth it. am i seeing something wrong here?
In terms of pure function(Getting you from point A to point B efficiently and accurately).. yes.. get the Tom Tom instead of Nav DVD updates for the car.
Personally, I like the look of the in-dash unit though. Much cleaner than having wires draped over parts of the cabin and stuff stuck to the windshield.
It really is such a ripoff how much money they charge for these damn Navigation DVD's for our cars.

Or you can order a burned update disc from a bunch of different people on the forums for about $6. You can even DL it yourself from ISOHUNT.com and burn it to a DVD if you have a dual layer DVD and writer. Hope that helps prevent you from wasting money on a tom tom, pm me if you want more instructions.
You know, Tom Tom isn't bad. Just as someone said, the OEM indash unit, and the more expensive aftermarket installed units might look good, the TomTom one's are extremely useful and functional. Free updates, different voices, people even update local information on the website. All TomToms have a battery inside them, once charged, you won't have to use a car charger, it's just a single unit attached to your windshield! You can even stuff it into the little cubby hole left behind from the OEM navigation.
It's certainly not as good looking. But it does it's job, and it's pretty cheap. I bought a refurbished one from Amazon a few months ago for $75 and free shipping!

what can i say, keeping up with the jones can be expensive?
the same question could be ask in the form of, why get the $1000 optional navigation system when buying the car compared to the $100-500 tomtom units out there?
i bought the disc, when i bought the car i had 6.3 in the car and 6.7 just came out. 4 year gap for $190, was a good way to spend it.
PM if you need it. As i have the non-virus orginals =P
