JL 10w0 or 10w3?

Ive heard mixed reviews on the difference between the jl 10w0 and the 10w3. The only thing installed so far is my kenwood DNX8120 head unit. After talking with the guys at my local car audio shop they recommended 3 10w3's powered by a audison lrx 5 channel amp Hertz Mille mlk 165 fronts and hertz energy 165.3 for the back seat side panels. Here goes the questions:
How much "better" are the w3's if at all?
Do I really need 3 or am I going overboard?
Would 2 12's be better?
Am I going to rupture my ear drums along with every screw holding the car together?

I am not sure how JL has updated their w0 and w3 lines, but when I was selling them 7 years ago there was a huge difference between the w0 and w3. W0s will give you a musical boost in the depth of sound, and the W3s are your entry point to boom.

It really depends on your use. Also, the difference between 10s and 12s can be heard at louder volume levels. 10s tend to hit with more punch, and 12s will play out the deep bass a little better.

Personally, I think the W3s are one of the best overall value subs giving quality performance for a wide range of music.

EDIT

As far as going overboard, 3 10s is probably a little overboard. once again it really depends on what you are looking for. I am looking into 1-10" W3 with the JL 500x1 amp to push it. But, I am not trying to let the entire neighborhood know that I am rolling through. Maybe just the neighbors a couple doors down from me.
