Thumbs up successful exorcism of the bose demon

I've had my 06 coupe for about a year and a half now. I've never been happy with the Bose so called "premium" sound.

Last summer I got a bug up my butt and decided to replace all the speakers and do a full on Raammat deadening.

Replaced all 6 speakers with Infinity Kappas. 60.9CS components for the doors, 62.9i two ways for the rear sails and 692.9i two way 6 by 9's for the rear deck.

I know the bose only outputs lows to the 6 by 9's but I wired them up with the crossover any way for future use.

Results were definately better especially with the raammat but still lacking volume and punch. Today I took care of the true offender. Here it is:

The bose amp. About the size of a hard drive with fins and not as heavy. Freaking pathetic. I can't believe they put their name on it.

Replaced it with this:

JL Audio A6450. 110w X 6 ch into 2ohms which the Kappas are and differentially balanced inputs. Pretty much the perfect replacement for the bose.

Took about 4 hours to install. Tapped into 8 input wires + the remote turn on in front of the bose amp and 12 speaker out wires. That is a whole mess or wire tapping.

Totally worth the time and expense. Full range out of all 6 speakers. Even without a sub that I will likely add soon I have some serious punch. No more bass rolloff over 22 volume, in fact I don't need to go near 22 on the HU. By the time it's at 18 it is so loud and so clean that's as far as I need to go.

Stock nav and bluetooth both working perfectly like the swap never happened.

Finally I have sound worthy of the G.

Thanks for sharing. I'll be getting a JL Audio 4 channel amp and MB Quart speakers installed in a couple days. I'm hoping for the same kind of results you got.

both doors and the entire rear passenger area. Still need to do the trunk and then maybe the cabin floor although that may be more work than it's worth.

It's basically the same except to totally replace the bose for all six speakers it required a six channel amp and a lot more splicing.

I'll post some pics of the amp and wiring later.

OK here is where all the splicing occurs:

the silver box you see is the bluetooth module. The amp was mounted underneath that. There are 2 plugs going into the amp, a blue one and a white one. The wires that go into those plugs are where you tap.

all the head unit outputs including remote turn on and the front door and rear side speakers are attached to the blue plug.

The white plug is where the speaker wires are for the rear deck used to be sub speakers.

I got a twisted pair rca cable and cut it in half for the 2 input leads to the amp.

splice those into blue plug wires as follows:

left front/ch1 left: wht + org -
right front/ch1 right: org /blu + wht/blu -
left rear/ch2 left: Teal + Pur -
right rear/ch2 right: blu + pink -
remote turn on: blue/silv

Outputs to speakers are as follows:

Blue plug:

Amp channel 1&2 speaker out to
Front left: grn + red -
front right: gry + yel -

Amp channel 5&6 speaker out to
left real sail panel: grn/yel + blk yel -
right real sail panel: red/blu + blk -

White plug:

Amp channel 3&4 speaker out to
rear deck left: blu/yel+ wht/grn -
rear deck right blu/red+ blu/wht-

I used 14 to 16 ga inline wiretaps I got from Fry's. no soldering, no need to cut the wires in case I sell the car and need to put the bose back.

Here it is fully wired:

Looks like a big mess until you put the trunk back together:

I think one of the biggest improvement is having the 6 by 9's outputting full range. The highs bounce forward off the rear window and there is a presence from the rear that wasn't there before.

It's also very nice to be able to turn up the volume and not feel like the system is straining for every decibal. Power to spare.
