Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?

Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?
Anyone else have this problem? I have so much static in my signal it's really annoying. I'm also having trouble getting FM stereo... it keeps switching to regular FM. Maybe I got a skunky antenna adapter?

me too.... i have the Scoche Nissan Y-adapter, i was thinking it was my headunit... maybe we have a powered antenna that needs a lead from the headunit? i could've sworn there was a lead out from my pioneer headunit that was meant for cars with antennas that go up/down (telescope) automatically.

Re: Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?
AUDIO ANTENNA System Description
With the ignition switch in ACC or ON, power is supplied
through 10A fuse [No. 6, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
to audio unit terminal 10.
Ground is supplied through the case of the antenna amp.
When the radio switch is turned ON, antenna signal is supplied
through audio unit terminal 5
to the antenna amp. terminal 2.
Then the antenna amp. is activated.
The amplified radio signals are supplied to the audio unit through the antenna amp.

Re: Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?
i am confused.... by having an aftermarket harness you assure that no stock wiring is messed with... so therefore the ACC wire should still be attached to the Antenna Amp, no?
AHHHH!!!

Did you hook up the power antenna wire?
<hr></blockquote>I don't remember. I think there wasn't anything to connect it too. The HU adapter did have a power antenna wire, but I thought we didn't have a power antenna? Not sure if the scoche wiring harness had a wire for that. Rambo, did you use the scoche wiring harness also, the NN03 and not just the antenna adapter?

Re: Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?
Afr0, i also used all scosche harnesses. In fact i do remember a power antenna wire... it was the blue wire coming from the NN03 harness labeled POWER ANTENNA.
Let me look in the ESM again for the factory harness wiring diagram....

Re: Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?
If you look in the AV section on page 9 of the esm, it shows that the ANT SIGNAL wire 5 (green/white) is an output to the AV-W/ANT
I have located this green/white wire before and have tapped into it because i thought it was the speed pulse cable, which turns out to be white/green, silly me
So maybe the solution is to connect the blue wire to the green/white wire? Does that make any sense? ugh this Flu is killing me....

Re: Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?
it seems like the work flows like this:
ACC Power --> Radio ON --> Wire 5 ON -->Antenna Amp ON --> Reception sent back thru the Nissan Antenna cable--> Scosche Antenna NDAB YAdapter --> Your headunit.

Re: Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?
my headunit (Pioneer AVIC-N1) has a blue lead, perhaps connecting this to the green/white antenna signal wire would do the trick... ugh i dont feel like taking apart the dash again
From Pioneer's manual:
"When the auto antenna function is used by connecting the blue lead to the vehicle with the auto antenna function, either turning off the ignition switch or detaching the front panel will retract the auto antenna of the vehicle"
That is why i never thought to connect it, since our antenna is built-into the window and doesnt need retracting.
Does anyone know which wire to tap into for the Reverse signal wire? I've heard its near the taillamps for the Reverse light.

Re: Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?
Uh oh! Someone has a reverse camera!! I'm 90% sure you tap into the ground for the reverse lights for those types of setups.

Re: Poor radio reception with aftermarket HU?
I had the same problem last year when I had my Kenwood KVT-911 head unit installed. The FM reception was terrible and all the antenna leads/power antenna connections etc. were hooked up properly. The installer had my g for over a week and xould not get it to pick-up FM proiperly. They even had 2 techs from Kenwood come and look at it. They changed head units, brains, and even tried an external antenna. They never could and never haved fixed the problem. Finally, to be able to listen to FM in a $35000 car, I patched the output of the OE Bose headunit into the aux input of the Kenwood. At least now I can listen to FM, though I usually liten to Sirius thru the Kenwood. I have heard of several g owners who have experienced the same thing. Don't know if it may be magnetic interference or something else from the G causing the distortion. Hope this helps a little but I know it doesn't fix the problem.
