Other than maybe shaving some weight, what are the advantages to
installing something like an optima red top or other higher end batteries?

a gell cell battery will be better if your going to use aftermarket car audio

 

most "high end" batteries are not light unless you buy a light weight battery

you will get faster starting time
more reserve time (depending on what you are running)

performance wise ,no difference in acceleration, shifting or anything like that

if you are running a single amp you probably dont need a upgraded battery.
if you are getting dimming a battery may help, but an alternator will help much more
