Aftermarket NAV?

Hello, I am a 2004 Infiniti G35X (AWD Sedan), with all options except the DVD NAV system. Where can I get one installed so it looks just like the one that comes with the car so it "pops" out from the area above the radio? Anyone have pictures etc of aftermarket dvd nav systems in their car?

Thank you.

Re: Aftermarket NAV?

yeah you are [censored] out of luck unless you want to spend upwards of 4-grand (parts only) on retro-fitting the nav into your car...

Your best bet is to go with an aftermarket nav system like the Eclipse or Pioneer systems. Then add $400 to your total for the double-din dash kit that you will need to order from Japan. This makes installation a snap and you can do it yourself, just follow the How-To's on the DIY section of the forum.

Re: Aftermarket NAV?

I'm still confused about this double-din thing. Pardon the ignorance. Basically you're taking out the stock radio and 6 disc CD player and putting in 2 units. One of which is a navi and what does the other unit do? Does that mean you lose the 6 disc and only have a 1 disc player? Also you lose the steering wheel controls as well?

Please someone teach me your wise ways.

Re: Aftermarket NAV?

the "double din" is just a kit not an deck...it let you put whatever you want into that slot. the stock radio and cd player will be out the car and yes the steering wheel control will not work, but there is some type of aftermarket (PAC?) connector that will allow you to have it.

Re: Aftermarket NAV?

Right I get it now. Sorry for the stupid question again but isn't there a nav out on the market that would take place of the stock radio already? I really wouldnt want to lose my steering wheel controls at all.

Re: Aftermarket NAV?

yes, aftermarket NAV usually includes a headunit as well. So you will no longer need the stock radio/headunit. Also, steering wheel controls may continue to function if you buy pac-audio's SWI-X unit.

here is how my dash looks like
$400 for the dash-kit, $1600 for the nav/headunit, $150 for the bottom in-dash dvd/mp3/cd/vcd/tv-tuner player

Re: Aftermarket NAV?

I made a special fold away housing for my g35 to put a 7" xenarc screen inside that I have hooked to my carputer that does NAV and lots more.

For more pictures see:
http://filebox.vt.edu/users/cholbroo/g35/

I am currently working on mass producing this housing and should have something available for sale by early august. This would allow you to put a 7" xenarc screen http://www.xenarc.com in the cubby hole as the pictures illustrate. Both VGA screens for computers are available as well as RCA video input screens for DVD players, after market NAV systems, rear view cameras, or anything else with a video output. The housing will be available with and without a screen already installed.

I can't sell these directly on this forum or release pricing information here, but it will be significantly less then the $400 double din kit. E-Mail me at godofcpu@vt.edu for complete pricing and more information if interested.
