Basslink Installed + Review
Basslink Installed + Review
Update: I just got my Infinity Basslink installed this afternoon. Didn't use a line in adaptor, split off the signals from the rear 6X9 speakers. Mounted it in the trunk with...... friction. I am not an audiophile, but here are my observations:
1) SOUND: The bass is very strong, but I adjust it just enough to fill the low end void. Crank it up, and the Basslink will make you dizzy in about 2 minutes. On low volume, the bass is still fairly clean and audible. Other units I heard at local audio stores have cleaner and more crisp sound than the Basslink, but they also cost a lot more.
2) FIT: The Basslink unit fits PERFECTLY on the driver side corner of the trunk.
I had to push it in place and it fits very tight with no other mounting aids. I was amazed how well this unit fits in the car, almost seems like it's designed for our trunk. In its upright position, the Basslink doesn't take away any usable space in the trunk. I think the Basslink is the most compact 10" system you can get on the market short of a well made custom box. Did I say the Basslink fits PERFECTLY into the coupe trunk? ; )
3) COST: I paid $190 for the Basslink on Ebay brand new in box shipped in 4 days. Then I got it installed at VEN while I got my Huper Optic done, and the installation +material cost was only $85. So I spent a total of $275 for this awesome system. I don't think you can find a better deal for a compact sub like the Basslink.
4) FUNCTIONS: The Basslink unit can take speaker level input without the use of a line in converter, and it has a built in crossover adjustment from 50hz - 150hz. I didn't use a line in converter and it sounds fine to me. The remote volume adjuster is mounter on my center console making adjusting bass level on the fly a breeze. It's great since the stock Bose equalizer is really a pain to use on the move.
5) QUARKS: Stock Bose system remains on for 3 minutes after shutting off the car. This means everytime I shut off the car, I need to turn the bass level to minimum on the remote adjuster or the subwoofer would begin to echo and rumble. (Only when the trunk is closed, as if it's oscillating its own noise) Also, splicing off the rear speakers reduced the output of the stock 6X9 sufficiently that the midrange from the rear seems to be lacking somewhat. I adjusted the fade to rear bias which helps alittle.
I highly recommend the Infinity Basslink to anyone looking for more punch down low without necessarily shatter windows in the neighborhood. The system looks very clean when installed in the trunk. It's definitely the best bang of the buck subwoofer out there. It's also easy to install for you DIY people. All you need is tap the rear speaker wires with wire tap supplied w/ the Basslink, run a fused Amp wire from the battery to the trunk, and that's it. I had professionals installed it for me, but for $85 it was pretty cheap. Besides, they did a better job than I could possibly do.
Happy Level: 9.5
Cost Effectiveness: 10 (buy it on Ebay)
Fit & Finish: 9.5 (would have been 10 if there was some LED in the enclosure to satisfy the ricer in me)
Functions: 9.5
Sound: 8.5
Overall: 9.5

Re: Basslink Installed + Review
it seems like your 5)Quarks might be a grounding issue. I'm not an expert at that stuff but I remember when I had a problem like that, I took it to a shop and they told me it was improper grounding and fixed the problem for me in minutes.
Re: Basslink Installed + Review
I am not too sure, that's what the installer told me. My Basslink unit stays on for appx 3 mins after the car is switched off, and I have to minimize the remote vol controller or I'd get the annoyn oscillating bass. I notice the bass does the same thing when I crank up the volume on the Basslink and the CD is silent. (between tracks) Is that not normal?
Re: Basslink Installed + Review
How can you give such a good write up and not have any pictures? Please post if you can. Thanks.
