Door speakers not very clear ...

I had a pioneer DD head unit put in along with all new JL speakers, a kicker anp and sub. The sub sounds really good but when i turn it up the 6 1/2s are really distorted. A buddy of mine said that the JLs i have are pretty good high/mid speakers and would clear up if i put an amp on em. Im assuming that the head unit is 50X4 meaning that each mid/high speaker is only getting 50 amps? so im trying to confirm what my buddy said ... by adding an amp to the small speakers, its gonna make them clearer?
oh and i have the mids/high speakers only on mids and highs, no low bass coming through them.

check your bass settings.
with a sub you don't have to turn up the bass at all just turn up the sub setting. - cross it over at 80Hz that's a safe xover point for most setups
oh and post up in the other audio section. This diy section is meant for how-to, and stuff like that.
