Best SQ Subs?

I was thinking about getting a RF T2 10" sub but I really want the best SQ sub out there... ..I realize that the sound quality has a lot to do with the right sized box tuned to specs and amp, wiring, etc. but what is the best SQ sub?

10W7 will give 99% of subs a run for their money. And they are CLEAN looking.

I don't find W7s very good for SQ... I find them a lil boomy - HOWEVER I've only heard them in the HO box which is meant for louder bass

I still haven't bought a sub yet but have narrowed the field down...

Which sub set-up would you choose? I will be pushing the sub(s) with an Alpine MRP-M1000 - 1000 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms

1 10" Alpine type X
1 12" Alpine type X
1 JL 10 W7
2 JL 8 W7
1 Boston Acoustics SPG555 SS (racetrack design with top SQ)

I haven't heard the Alpine Xs but a lot of people say they are one of the best for SQ. What do you think?

I am leaning towards the Alpine type X but not sure on the size. I plan on putting them in a custom sealed box to maintain accuracy but not sure if the 10" will be enough to get the SQ lows that I am looking for...

I'd have to go with the JL 10W7. The W7 came about in 2001 after a long long wait. Thing has more patents on it than any other woofer on the market.

If they seem boomy to you, it's probably because they're in a vented enclosure. These sound awesome in a sealed enclosure. i guess I'm biased. I'm a JL Audio,Kicker,Alpine,Maats,Clarion, and Kenwood dealer in Omaha, Ne

BTW....went to their website. Counted 7 patents on the W7. May be more??

I'd do 10W7 personally myself, on a HD750.1.....but my G's breaking the bank on go fast mods.

I have considered the 10W7 too but I really want SQ and the Alpine Xs are made with SQ in mind.

Why would you choose the 10W7 over the Alpine 10s or 12s in a sealed enclosure?

Also, when I get a custom box, is fiberglass better than 1" MDF?

I'd go with the 1"MDF. The W7 is alot more musical than the power hungry type X. But it'll go a little something like this....this will be my good guy, right answer analogy that i tell my customers:

I love Fords, and Nissans. I used to have a Ford, Now I have a G35. You couldn't give me a Chevy. I dislike them. But you may love them, and dislike What I like....and so on and so on. It'll come down to personal preferance. I can't tell you one is better than the other. Just give advise! So truly it's up to you.

But if you look at www.jlaudio.com and read a little you'd be suprised. www.Alpine1.com doesn't have that much tech.....just sayin...

SQ wise, would the Alpine X 10" or 12" be better?

Why do you think the W7s are not a top choice? I've heard the IDmax and think they are nice but over a W7? Some say the JLs are overpriced and there are equally impressive subs for half the money. The only subs that I can put above the W7s are the Alpine Xs so far with IDmax a close second.

Thoughts?
