Anyway to keep stockradio and add Pioneer AVIC-N1?
I'm new to all of this but was interested in the Pioneer deck. Has anyone mounted it someplace in the center console to get both of them to work? I'd be interested in GPS and DVD playback. Anyone have any pictures?

if you mean stock location??? the answer is a big fat NO...cause the stock radio and AC controller are one peice!!! you can not cut it to make it fit other deck in it, but you can put it up the cubby hole, it will stick out 4~6 inchs, or you can fiberglass it into place, but that will quite expensive if you want it to do it right!

Has anyone tried a location possibly underneath the tape deck even? I'm not sure if it could go in flush however. Isn't the problem with the double din though when the navi is up it blocks all the AC controls?

okokok...one more time...there isnt room at stock location!!! the face plate is one peice and connect with one cable to the cd n tape deck in the back of console, you can not cut the face plate unless you are very good with IC boards....i have tried what you said before....it wont work at all, you can not move the face plate up or down more than two inches, cause the cable isnt long enough to reach to the rear of the deck...bottom line...you cant put the new deck in the stock location without the stand alone AC controller....besides there isnt room under the tape deck.

lime... the AVIC-N1 is one of the deepest din-sized headunits on the market... it will NOT fit on the bottom there like that Farenheight dvd player.
I also have a stand-alone dvd player, it is about 2 inches shorter than my N1 (depth) plus the N1 requires at least 1 inch free behind it for air-flow or else the unit will overheat.

So then you would still be able to put in a NEW Double-Din deck in place of the stock radio correct? There's no double-din deck that does DVD playback and GPS? I believe the only double-din i've seen really is the Kenwood DDX7015. Which are other options?

Eclipse AVN models seem to be the most popular double-din nav/gps/dvd/cd players on the market...
This is GRider35c's AVN 2454...

Thanks Rambo. You've been a big help. Any chance to see a picture of what it looks like closed? That def. seems like something i'd be interested in. Only problem is the car can't be in park right, atleast in my 5AT?

Re: Anyway to keep stockradio and add Pioneer AVIC
I understand that. I personally don't like the look of the kit where there's just a single din and wasted space. Also takes more effort and I'm not exactly the most inclined person to do these jobs. Was looking for a good solution. Are there any other good double din units out there as well?

Re: Anyway to keep stockradio and add Pioneer AVIC
no problem
The unit doesnt really close. The screen is always showing, thats one of the 2 bad things about the AVN...
1) Screen doesnt close/hide-away, for theft-deterant reasons.
2) Must be at least in Reverse to eject a disc because of the clearance of the screen (Only on 5AT). Not too big of a deal because while in D or N you are fine.
