pac swi-x help !!!
Has anyone else installed the PAC- swi-x and the AA-Nis? I installed it and I am using it to control my DVD/MP3 player. I have it programmed for version 5, but the only buttons I can program are the first two on the cd changer (the 1 - 6 buttons), I can't program the up/down on the steering wheel. any suggestions, anyone had this problem?

Re: pac swi-x help !!!
thanks, I will try and do that. One of my friends also tried to install the swi-x to control his dvd player (which is underneath his armrest), and was only able to program the 6 presets, not any of the steering wheel control buttons. What a disappointment.

Doesn't it have to be programmed to version 3 for Infiniti/Nissan? I installed mine and didn't have any problems getting it to program.
Which steering wheel buttons don't program? The green wire from the wheel controls volume-up, seek-up and mode and the red controls volume-down, seek-down, and power. So if one of those groups of 3 isn't working I'd double check the connection.

Re: pac swi-x help !!!
It has to be programmed for version five to operate any aux devices that you are using with the PAC AAI-NIS. It's version three if you are replacing the bose system. The up down button is the button that I want to program to skip through my mp3z or dvd chapters and the only buttons I can program are the 6 presets which I don't need because my dvd player is mounted below the bose system.
I have the PAC AAI-Nis (yellow wire) connected to the black and yellow of the swi-x and not getting anything from any of the steering wheel control buttons.
what are you using the swi-x to control?

Re: pac swi-x help !!!
Oops.. didn't know that the programming for the aai-nis was different. I am using mine to control an aftermarket HU. I just read through the instructions for the aai-nis and it sounds like you have it hooked up right. Do the steering wheel controls still work normally? You could also try extended ir mode on the swi-x but I would guess that prob isn't the prob.
Re: pac swi-x help !!!
Hey JohnBoy !
I am using mine to control an aftermarket HU & all the steering wheel control buttons work except the Volume & Seek only work one increment at a time.
Any sugestions?

I had the same problem w/ my hu (Kenwood). I changed the swi-x to use extended IR mode and reprogrammed the commands and it works great now.

Can you please explain what you mean by extended IR mode?

The swi-x has two ir modes to support different: standard is used for most head units and extended for others. I'm not sure what the technical difference is between the two.
From the troubleshooting section of the instruction manual (http://www.pac-audio.com/instruction...struc%20cs.pdf):

When pressing and holding down the volume button on the steering wheel, the volume or track on the radio only goes up or down by one or is very slow. May also relate to other functions.
• Depending on some vehicles, some stereos may not respond very well. Try programming the interface for ‘Extended IR Mode’.
This may or may not help in response from the stereo.

Here are the programming instructions for anyone who doesn't have them:
To program the unit for Extended IR mode:
Step 6:Press and hold programming mode button on SWI-X. Turn the vehicle ignition to the ON position. Both LEDs on SWI-X will light.
Step 7:Release the programming mode button. Both LEDs will turn off, indicating memory is cleared, then turn on again for only 3 seconds.
Step 8:To turn IR Extended Mode ON
uring the 3 seconds that the LEDs are lit from Step 7, press and release the programming button. Both LEDs will turn off.
Step 9:Press and release the programming/mode button the same number of times as the desired version number. (3 for G35) LEDs will fl ash each time the button is pressed. After 3 seconds, LEDs will fl ash to indicate set version number. Left LED: 10s place Right LED: 1s place
Step 10:Turn vehicle ignition to OFF position. Programming sequence is complete.
You must then reprogram the buttons:
Step 11:Turn the vehicle ignition to the ON position. LEDs will flash to indicate set version number. Left LED: 10s place Right LED: 1s place
(Steps 12-17 are skipped for G35)
Step 18:Press and hold programming mode button on SWI-X. Left LED will light.
Step 19:Release programming mode button.
Step 20:Within 7 seconds, press and hold the VOLUME UP button on the steering wheel control. Left LED will turn off.
Step 21:Release the VOLUME UP button. Right LED will turn on.
Step 22:Hold the IR emitter on the head unit's remote control within 3 to 4 inches of the IR Input on the SWIX. Press and hold the VOLUME UP button on the remote control. Right LED will turn off.
Step 23:Release the VOLUME UP button on the remote control. Left LED will turn on. The function is programmed.
Step 24:Repeat steps 20 - 23 for each audio function on the steering wheel control. Press the cor re spond ing function on the head unit's remote control. Wait no more than 7 seconds between programming each function, or the SWI-X will exit the programming mode and the procedure must be restarted (Step 11).
