Hiding avic N1 or AVH-P6600DVD

Hi all since I can't seem to get a double din and I don't really wan't to deal with getting it from J's garge because it's too many steps involved. So I wan't to know if I can hide a AVIC-N1 or AVH-P6600DVD or similar in the cubby hole where the stock nav screen goes and make it flip up when I'm using it and when I'm not make it close and cover it up with the cubby door so it will look like nothing at all was done? I prefer this method in a way because it makes theives keep walking when all they see is the stock HU in the dash. I wan't all the fancy stuff to show off in the trunk not the dash.

Re: Hiding avic N1 or AVH-P6600DVD

P.S I wouldn't mind gettin the DD dash stuff from someone else if they had it and wouldn't mind parting from it for some extra cash but my install date is next wensday so I'm kinda in a hurry so I'm willing to pay a little more for someone that has one for sale now i'm willing to make it worth while. If i can't hide it like I said in my previous post.

Re: Hiding avic N1 or AVH-P6600DVD

you are better off waiting.

there has been only 1 person here who has installed a hide-away 1-din unit like the N1 or AVH in the navi cubby.

It costed him over $1200 and he had to cut off venting air-flow.

Simply put, dont do it. Your better off waiting and getting the double-din dash kit. The N1 and AVH hide-away anyway when you press the Close button. You cant even tell that you have a 6.5" LCD screen in there!

I would just order it from J's Garage (that's what I did). There is the "odd" step of faxing your driver's license to Japan, but I hear some people just scanned it and emailed it over. Yoshi uses this to confirm you are who you say you are. Delivery doesn't take that long depending on where you live. If you are on the west coast, it won't take too long at all once Yoshi gets it from Nissan.

I like your install sardi thats pretty cool I hope I can at least get that if I can't get it to sit behind the door. You didn't cut any vents did you? and is the unit skipping or anything wrong with it mounted at that angle?Where was that done at?

if you check out my car by clicking my name, i have a alpine nav200 system where i put the dvd player in the cubby and got the stock nav frame for 12 bucks and put the alpine nav monitor in it so it can go where the stock nav would go.

Re: Hiding avic N1 or AVH-P6600DVD

shaf140 isn't that just a nav unit and not a full blown headunit? I need a whole HU not just a nav system I really don't even care if it has nav or not I don't use it.

Saridi: that is the perfect install that I was looking for. Did your installer have to alter your airbox as well? How is the audio piped into the stock HU? thanx.
