Dynomat - great improvement

Well I just got done putting in 72 square feet of dynomat throughout my coupe. With 72 sf, I was able to do the trunk, both doors, entire back seat area and wheel wells, and foot section of driver and passenger side. I was able to double pad the wheel wells.

Currenlty I have a complete Bose stock system (with J&D JL sub on the way). I was thinking about taking out the blose and putting in JL or MB Quart compoents.

I was simply AMAZED on how dynamat improved stuff. It really helps the bose system and turned it from sounding muted and lame to alot clearer and punchier. My sound quality and loudness improved so much I'm actualy considering keep the bose and just adding my 10w7, without new compenents, to save some $$$. My GF, who hates my high priced hobbies and is usually skeptical of my "projects" actually commented that it sounded a lot better.

Also no rattles, and the BIG thing I notice is that when I go from street traffic to freeway, I don't have to turn up the radio due to increased noise. I can listen at relatively low levels and hear the music well.

So I give dynomat big thumbs up. Thanks to the online guides that helped me remove my doors and back seats.

Pictures to come - I'm posting them when I post my whole system (which should be done in a week or so)

I'm seriously considering doing this. I do a lot of highway travel and I'm starting to notice the road noise more and more. The fact that it passed the girlfriend/wife test impresses me. They usually only notice when you paint a car a different color.

Damn man, registered since may and 174 posts! Haha.

Take a look at the top of the Audio section.. those posts are typically called "sticky threads" or something, cause they stick up there.

Look for the ones posted by nycg35.. he's got some great writeups.

Yea, i posted a lot about the car before I actually bought it. Don't really come around the Audio forum as much but I did get a sub, amp, stealthbox insstalled but because of the rattilng, would like some sound dampening.

Would you say Dynomat is overrated. I knwo some swear by others. Accumat? others?

Re: Dynomat - great improvement

my b-quiet extreme is coming by UPS this wednesday. Since I don't really have any way of comparing it to dynamat (i haven't used any other sound deadener before), I can only say how good this stuff is.

I'll hopefully find time to install it within the next week or so and give it a review.

Cascade, Accumat, and Fatmat are other names I've heard.

Can you get a sound level meter check before install and after install using the same road with same traffic conditions?

Have you used the stuff before? In what cars? Just wondering why a review is necessary if you've used the stuff before. Also if you dont mind me asking how mcuh it costs? I'm looking to do an install of some sound deadening soon.

Re: Dynomat - great improvement

i have no idea where to get a sound meter.. if someone wants to hook me up

I'll try to do my best to give my best judgement on the difference in sound.

I've never used the stuff, but it's pretty cheap, and www.b-quiet.com gives some numbers comparing it to dynamat. They admit the extreme stuff isn't as good as dynamat, which shows that they're PROBABLY being truthful, but it's helluva lot cheaper.

I got it from some guy on ebay for $125 shipped for $100 sq ft and a free wooden roller.

You can get a cheap analog one from Radio Shack. If you have a home theater system, you'll use it at least one more time to properly calibrate it

Re: Dynomat - great improvement

I just added a JL sub in the trunk. Is it really worth putting dynamat in the whole car or just the trunk for me? I'd like to reduce the rattle, especially the stupid rear view mirror vibrating. Its driving me nuts.

Re: Dynomat - great improvement

I think it is. I was nervous while doing the install because I take all that money and the time (took me about 8 hours total for whole car) without getting any good results. Again, the results were great IMHO.

Don't get me wrong, its not as quiet as some $100K+ luxury sedan. However, when I'm listening to music its much clearer and punchier, and I don't really hear road noise at all when I'm playing my music.
