NAV - program on the fly?
NAV - program on the fly?
I would like to know if there is any way to disable the feature in the NAV system that prohibits you from programming a destination while the car is moving. This is a reasonable safety feature when driving alone but annoying when you have a passenger who can give their undivided attention to the NAV.
Re: NAV - program on the fly?
There is a way to do that. But, it requires cutting and splicing a wire on the back side of your NAV system, if you are comfortable with that sort of thing. There was a very good "DIY" instructional posted on here a while back. Do a search and see if you can find it. I think it was listed under "Navigation Bypass Switch".
You must remove your glove box to get to the back of your NAV system then cut a wire (I would tell you which one, but I can't remember . . . I have messed with so many wires on my car I can't remember which color ones were for what anymore).
You then splice extensions onto each end of the cut wire and run them to a switch which you flip when you want to fool the system into thinking the car is stopped, so you can program the NAV. Some people use the trunk bypass switch in the glove box as their new NAV switch. Others, myself included, just mount another switch somewhere closer to the driver's side and use it.
If you can't find the DIY and no one posts with the right wire to cut, post back and I will look through my old notes and see if I can be certain on which wire is the one to cut.
Good luck.

It's the green and white wire. I have also done this on my own and it takes little to no time at all. It is seriously one of the best mods on this forum. Good luck!
