bought JDM double din, installing single din...need pocket
bought JDM double din, installing single din...need pocket
I just bought the jdm double din, because I was worried about the Metra Quality. Riverside is sending me the double Din kit. I am installing a single din unit and I am worried because the JDM kit comes with no pocket to fill the extra space. Who here has the JDM kit with a single din unit and has found something that works to fill the space.
Any help would be great, since I am installing this soon.
Thank you

Combine one of these:
With one of these:
But, a single-din pop-out headunit is going to block your AC controls and looking out of place, and a regualar single-din just seems like such a waste when you've already spent $300+ on the JDM kit, $60 on steering remote adapter and another $15 on the harnesses.
If you're already in $400 just to install a new headunit, you might as well make sure the headunit you put in is worth it.

as I've researched this project, I'd have to agree. A double DIN unit would make more sense.
I'm curious about the single DIN because: I have a good Alpine single DIN (9856 I think), it's lifetime subbed to Sirius, has IPOD cable, and I can get steering wheel controls. It doesn't allow an easy way to input a 3.5inch plug, but oh well. It doesn't flip, I'd use built in nav system for videos anyway. but that's a future project. I just need sirius, ipod, and then I'll be ok. hte JDM will be pricey, but I can build on it from there.
now I just need to find all hte answers for aftermarket deck, with bose system/amp. think I need a LOC or something.
thanks wrathernaut

Your justification is worthy. Lifetime Sirius is pretty good, and with stock navigation, you've got that covered too.
I approve.
You do not need a LOC for the Bose amp with an aftermarket headunit, since the Bose amp expects an unamplified signal to be sent to it. If you use the Metra 70-7551 to run your line-outs to the rear, it'll work fine. Did it with a Pioneer U310BT with that harness, good results.
A few have had noise issues with a similar setup, but others have had noise issues with complete replacement setups too, so I'm not sure if it's consistent enough to blame the harness + factory Bose amp.

I was gonna go the single din route because more SQ based head units are single din
I found the Kenwood DNX8120 and while it sounds good its not close to my old Premier 960mp, Clarion DRZ or the Eclipse 8454.....ah memories.....

True, but if you sell your car, it is better than loosing your lifetime subscription.
