My jl sub keeps ripping..

This is my second jl 10w6v2 and the sub is ripped at the seam.. Are they just designed bad or could my settings not be right and its putting excessive strain on the sub??

I don't really have an answer, but to get an answer can you provide more info...what kind of amp / how much power is going to it? Did you properly set the gains on the amp?

Sounds like your pushing too much power through it.

That amp works well with that sub in a sealed enclosure. In a ported one though, it could be too much.

Are you guys serious? Kicker is a fantastic brand and have handled more excess power than any JL sub me or any friend has owned. Not to mention that a Kicker Solo baric, matched with a Kicker amp makes for boom boom that a JL would fall on its face attempting. 'least that is my opinion. Kicker has been nothing but reliable in my past cars. And if I decided on a custom audio setup, Kicker would be my choice. For a subwoofer at least. I can't vouch for any door speakers from them.

It is in a sealed box, it's based off the 4080 box but I had it built.. Could my settings be wrong??

What are the specs of the amp and speakers? (channels, ohms, peak/rms power, # of subs)
Settings are a possibility, as well as the way its wired.

For some people yes. Other's like me, enjoy more of the physical rumble that a sealed box and a Kicker L7 can provide =P

And I am not saying JL is a slouch. I just don't think they can be considered a "Rolls-Royce" of sub's when if anything JL and Kicker are on par throughout their product range.

I'm not saying they're the Rolls Royce of anything, but with that analogy, there's a reason that a 13-second BMW costs more than a 12-second honda.
