Best, Stock looking MP3 solution for our car?

Hi guys,

I want mp3 playback ability in my car, but I want to keep everything as stock as possible without any wires showing. I was looking at the phatbox... do you guys think that's the best solution? Do any of you guys have custom setups with an iPod or iRiver or anything of that sort? Thanks.

leeno..dunno if this would fit the bill (Assuming you don't have NAV) but I hae an Alpine MP3 changer (from my old B15 Sentra SE) thatI bought the FM modulator from off ebay, and it runs the changer with a remote and everything. Sweet setup, and the display hides in the cubby, here's a pic:

Doh! I see you have nav... well this solution can still work.. just would have to situate the controller somewhere else

Hey tgenius,

I have a NAV so this setup wouldn't be good. I've seen your setup before when I searched. Thanks though =)

Nice, but mine is stick. Plus, I would like the unit hidden. Anyways, I decided to go with the Phatbox. Hopefully it will be here sometime this week. I have some songs I want to jam in that thing! >=)

Whoooooa that phatbox is expensive. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a DVD player and a monitor. Then you would also have DVD capability.

I am waiting on the Murano guru's X-Box setup. If that turns out to work for our cars with easy installation, it might just be the best do-it-all solution for out cars.

In the mean time, I have a iPod running off tape adaptor that is operated by my navigator.

Why bother with all the limitations of an x-box when you could just put a regular computer in. You can buy a computer with similar specs for about the same price of an x-box and mod chip or get something more then twice as fast for just slighly more, then you don't have to worry about finding hardware or software compatible with it, if you can even find it. i.e. GPS, touchscreen, XM radio...

I don't want DVD! I had a setup in the IS300 where I had the Pioneer system (dvd player/screen, dvd changer, tv tuner, a/v unit) and didn't really use it as I didn't make that many road trips. I considered it a big waste of money. Now, my whole life's worth of music in one cartridge? I can dig that =)

By the way, all the DVD entertainment stuff I have is up for sale.

What I was thinking was you can have 5 gig dvd's with mp3's on them. So 4 dvd's = the phatbox. Plus, the added benefits. Its your choice but I am just wondering about the benefits of a phatbox compared to a dvd or computer system.

hey red,

Did you drill holes through your trunk mat to keep it in place? I was thinking of installing it on the side wall, the wall right next to where yours is. Does that seem feasible? Would it fit?

Leeno,
Not sure if you have SAT or not but if you do not then that phatbox would probably fit above the stock bose amp (and out of view). There is a plastic piece next to the spare tire that has a lot of room under it.

yes, i drilled holes through the mat. I don't think it can go on the side wall without making some sort of flat panel to mount it on.

i looked at mounting it in diff locations, but where you see it is the best place i found in that area. It could probably go under & out of sight, by the bose amp, but keep in mind you will need to get to the cartridge whenever you want to upload songs to it.

Can someone get me the Infiniti cables for the Phatbox? Phatnoise is being strict about not giving away the cables..
