Hardwiring V-1 additional info
Hello - I figured I'd add this info for anyone else looking to hardwire their radar detector and want a 3rd option to the already existing DIY posts.
This should work for the V1 as well as the 8500 (I did it for the V-1)
Basically - you are looking for a 12V source that only gets hot when the ignition or ACC are on.
For those if you with the homelink, you can use one of the wires going to the mirror.
On mine, there is a black, a black with red stripe and a black with pink stripe.
The black with red stripe is always hot and is not the ideal choice.
The black with pink spot is only hot with ACC or igntion so was ideal to use.
Rather than splicing the wires near the mirror I removed the overhead light panel and traced the wires coming into the overhead and found they are in the wire bundle up toward the front top with about 15 other wires.
Pull down the black with PINK and use a wire tap to get into it. You have to be delicate beacause there isnt much slack and you need needle nose pliers to squeeze the tap on - you'll get it with a few tries.
For ground I just put the black portion coming off of the power adapter that came with the V1 to a metal part on the rear of the light assemble. Play with this because not all of it acts as a ground when the car is actually on. I used a portion all the way to the left side (opposite where the white power clip is)
Plenty of room up there for all the excess wire and power adapter etc.
Just thought I'd share.
