PA15-NIS Steering wheel control not working?
PA15-NIS Steering wheel control not working?
Just installed the PA15-NIS on my 04 Sedan w/ Bose (SAT button). Everything works fine w/ the exception of the steering wheel controls.
I cant advance the song on the IPOD w/ the steering wheel control (works fine via the actual bose unit). Nothing happens at all when I "push" the button. My steering wheel volume, mode, etc... all work fine. When I'm in radio or CD mode, the station change/track advance w/ the steering wheel works fine then too. Just wondering if anyone else ran into this during an install of this unit or its predecessor (PA11-NIS). I've tried a few ipods and none work.
The only other strange thing I've seen is while setting the presets for folder mode the sat channel jumps to something like 16 or 27 or some random number after I set the preset for button 4 - the song will also scramble a bit after it's set (this may be expected, but you'd think the manual would give you a heads up).
There is only one way the thing can go together, so unless a DIP switch setting is wrong (4 is only one "on"), I'm not sure what else it could be. I'm going to call tech support tomorrow if I can't figure it out, but I thought I'd ask here in hopes of getting my dash back together.

I'll answer my own question for knowledge base purposes:
I just spoke w/ USA spec and the guy had gotten several calls on similar issues. He actually was going to ask them to change the manual so that it doesn't clearly state that steering wheel controls (track advance) is supported. He told me they just couldn't get it to work for some cars.
So...
Since steering wheel control was more important to me than text display, I configured the unit in Playlist + Direct Mode instead of Folder + Direct Mode.
Playlist mode does not support text display and is just like the previous configuration w/ the PA11-NIS. To set playlist mode, DIP 2,3,and 4 = On. The IPOD is used via the CD mode.
Side note: I was able to get Folder mode set up and the text to display, so the functionality is there - just couldn't change the track w/ my steering wheel control. To get Folder mode to set up properly, I had to set DIP 3 = ON (all else off). The manual suggests to set DIP 4 = on if you have a SAT button, but mine was acting up when I went that route.
At any rate, it looks like some folks have been able to get the folder mode/text display to work w/ the steering wheels controls (different year cars), but I had no luck. If you got this to work on a 2004 Bose w/ Sat button, I'd love to hear about it.

i personnaly just discoered if you hold the scan button up for 3 seconds or so on your steering wheel, it skips songs (i have a 2006 g35 with pa15-infi ) dunno if im the first to discover this or if i just havent read the right threads, but was happy to discover this!
