i like it but i dont like that you have to pay every year for it and that you have to buy it seperatly from the alarm system itself... dont get me wrong its a realy nice system (revolutionary and unique if you ask me) but im sure the prices should come down... atleast thats my opinion.

I hear ya... It is only $33 a year with roadside assistance. Not exactly pricey if you consider monthly data plans for your cell phone are 10x that. Think about it, it is a cell device in your car. We just dropped the price to $199 for the add on module. Was $299. We have tracking coming soon for it too!

Thanks for the comment.

I believe the price actually went up to 199.98 for three years of service with roadside and vipers carrier just had a deal until the end of January where it was being offered at only 50 a month. There are three levels of smart start. Vsm 200 is the add on module to compatible rs/alarm/keyless viper system, you must have for it to work!! The next is the VSM 3000 which will give the base smart start system, but does not come with remotes. You can buy the 99.99 antenna/wire/remote package to add a remote. The last version is the VSM 4000. This is essentially a viper 5101 rs/keyless with the smart start as the second remote. I strongly recomend this to customers since the same is the cost of the VSM 3000 and adding the 99.99 remote since this will get more range with the remote and gives you more outputs for add on features.

Regardless of what system from what company you will need several additional parts. You will need an extra relay for the second start wire. You will need a bypass module, the flcan and dball should do the job. I use the flcan since it is what we sell. I love this module but I have had some issues with it saying it will disarm factory alarm and on some car sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. In this case on the G you must go into the drivers side door to get the factory disarm wire which means you have to deal with a Molex plug, not fun. These cars as others are fairly simple do if you have been installing for a very long time (17+ here). What people fail to understand is that there is alot to deal with and an install will take some time. My installs usually take any where from 2-6 hours depending on car and add on features. The prices you see advertised for install in most places are using a 95 honda civic for a base price comparison. No modules needed and only 12-14 wires hooked up. They do this since if they advertised the cost of a common car today with the extra relays and modules, the owners of older cars will be detered due to cost at a glance.

I have a Viper 5701 (alarm/remote start) and the Smart Start on my 2003 G35 6MT. I have to say I like the ability to start the car and the 5701 works well. The Smart Start for iPhone is a cool feature. I can be alerted wherever I am if my alarm is triggered and I can lock/unlock, start, etc. I will say that I thought it would be a replacement for my fob, but I don't think it is. There is a few seconds of delay when you use the iPhone to transmit a command, so you can't really use it just as you would a fob when you walk up to your car or you will stand there waiting for it to do something. I do like it for when I am at work and too far from the car for the fob to alert me if the alarm is triggered, etc.

You do not lose your key. You just use the DLPK module to interface the car and alarm.

I say go for it....but get a really good installer, it is worth the money.
