amp HELP!

amp HELP!

ok i guess im just a fool when it comes to car audio but i disconnected my battery and moved my amp around but now when reconnecting the battery i get sparks n flashes when putting the negative side back in...how do i safely put my car back together? :-)

sparks on the battery pole or from the amp? There is always going to be a bit of arcing (sp?) because the flow can traverse air if the open circuit is close enough.

With large car audio amps that is totally normal. Amps these days have large built in capacitors on the internal power supply. When you first connect power they instantly charge up. There is a curve of distance to amperage in which electricity will flow through the air (like lighting, for example). There arn't many good ways out of this one, but your best bet would be to remove the fuse from the amp(s). Reconnect all terminals and then put the fuse back in. The fuse will spark, but its no big deal.
