Aftermarket Amp - What to get?
Aftermarket Amp - What to get?
Hi,
I posted some time ago about a bad 2004 sedan bose amp. I got some great advice, but need to choose an amp now and do the rewire job with RCAs.
I am hoping to keep the stock head unit (just spent money to have it fixed before doing proper research) and the speakers. I will be selling this car in about a year and need the stereo working, but don't want ot do a full overhaul.
Anyone who has just replaced the amp with an aftermarket one:
Which amps are best for this purpose?
Anything I need to be aware of?
I did search...and have a lot...but I haven't seen anything that answers the above...so forgive me if I missed something.

Well, lots of discussion already on this. But, if i were you . . .
1. For regular (4) channel, get a JL Audio 300/4
However, i have a Sedan '04 BOSE amp in perfect working condition if you want something plug-n-play. PM me if interested.

please remember that you need wires for this amp also.
depending on which you chose that can be anywhere from $30-$100+
I like knukoncepts copper clad wire, you really cant tell the difference and its about $40 shipped for an entire amp kit with RCAs....although I would buy a better set of RCAs
JL makes great amps, they are a bit more money, but are worth it. Alpine makes great amps.
As long as you stick to a name brand amp, you will be happy

I love my JL 500/1 It knocks the 10 inch w7 hardcore i wouldn't go with anything less than JL audio ever again. Its expensive but so worth it. I got a new in box 500/1 for 200 bucks and a lightly used 10 inch jl w7 in small custom ported box for 300.
Id recommend the jl audio 300/4 also.

Both the Alpine and JLs are great amps, but if you're getting rid of this thing in a year, I wouldn't want to waste the money. The Rockford is going to have power but not so much clarity, but a Cadence would give you both reasonably at a decent price.
The thing you're going to have to contend with is converting the low level output from the factory head unit to a usable rca signal. I believe on that one it's a 2 channel stereo output, but the voltage is going to be pretty low. Your most foolproof option is to use a JL Cleansweep to grab the signal and convert it up. Last time I needed one they were going dirt cheap. I'm not sure if that's changed.

I am with Liche on this one, if you are going to get rid of it in a year, and your are keeping the stock speakers the same...just get a replacement amp. Plus, unless you get a sub, if you get a new amp, you won't have anything running the low frequency drivers in the car.
